I would genuinely be happy if people started calling LLMs and stable diffusion models "SI" instead of AI. AI already meant something and these models are not it. Not to mention I can stop feeling weird about writing sci-fi that is empathetic towards actual AI despite hating the "AI" we have.

My university is the first organisation in the world to force Microsoft to allow us to turn off copilot summaries in Word 365, after a backlash against it from staff (including, very vocally, me). That cannot have been easy for our heroic IT people so hats very much off to them!

I've had this thought that the way we structure education around teach > test > one try > grade > permanent record has fucked up our whole perception of the relationship between failure, learning & growth. We come out of that box so afraid of failure we don't bother to try. GenAI preys on this fear.

Attackers stole $387.5 million in crypto assets from Bitget, a cryptocurrency exchange originally founded in Singapore and headquartered out of the Seychelles. Centralized stablecoin issuers Circle and Tether (issuers of USDC and USDT) froze $318,000 in stolen assets, but the vast majority were swapped to decentralized cryptocurrencies and have not been frozen.
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen has said the company believes that a North Korean cybercrime group may be behind the theft. Bitget halted withdrawals shortly after the theft was noticed, citing the need to prevent attackers from stealing more assets. Bitget has said they have sufficient assets to cover the stolen funds.

As someone who worked retail, shoplifting *did* get a lot worse in recent history But why? Not because "gangs" or whatever, suits just realized that even if the same person comes in every day and loads up, it's cheaper than paying security and/or lawsuits when the interactions go poorly.

So the message of this research out of China, where you were seeing a lot of kids using A.I. to help them, was that when they were using the A.I., they were getting things done faster. They think of large systems. Today’s computers have trillions, hundreds of trillions of transistors in them. When I first graduated from school, the first chip I worked on had 200 transistors. I knew every one of them by name. No engineer does that today. Most engineers now work well above the transistor, well above the functionality, and they’re cobbling things together to do things.

So you need to think much more about systems and interactions of systems. So some of the lower-level knowledge is gone.

But when Ed Sheeran's fans decide not to buy tickets to his performances, or even demand refunds, it's bullying, mob behaviour. Since most people are not billionaires and do not own stadiums, they can exercise meaningful power only collectively. The collective exercise of power must therefore be demonised.

A month ago they deactivated account because they got so much pushback, then had a crashout and used another acct to troll people about it. Just a head's up for anyone who wants to easily avoid AI products.
