I've had this thought that the way we structure education around teach > test > one try > grade > permanent record has fucked up our whole perception of the relationship between failure, learning & growth. Had a look at an AI generated sketch as "proof" that the most AI looking art you could ask for isn't AI, and the gaps in knowledge or craft that inspire someone to reach for the AI in the first place are really fascinating. Like, what a layperson thinks a sketch is vs. what Artists use them for.

Just made the mental connection that home heating oil is basically interchangeable with diesel fuel, meaning the current diesel price spike is going to impact people living in oil-heated homes moving forward into the colder months. Went to the state fair and got a simple tabletop baseball game. It's cute, two teams roll a combined 2d6 to see what the outcome of an at-bat is. It came with a plain white 2d6 and that wouldn't do for a baseball game; I checked my bag of infinite novelty dice and found 2d6 to make some real teams.

There's a road here in Boston that has train tracks in it. It has rails in the road, in the lane you drive in. The Green Line runs through the same space that your car drives, in the same direction, for a pretty good distance. You and the train make use of the same lane. The rails are in the road.
