The more combative Dems get, the more of this they will run into. It will be a coordinated wave of elite opinion, scolding them, tamping them down. The fight strategy *only* works if they are willing to bull their way through it, blow it off, mock it. (Their history does not raise one's hopes.)

whenever trump's DOJ has to go in front of a judge to get yelled at, every lawyer on here is like "omg i've NEVER seen a judge this mad, if a judge yelled at me like this i'd immediately commit seppeku," and then at the end of the hearing the judge is like "ok no sanctions just don't do it again"

You know, the problem with politically weaponizing the DOJ is that it both allows the GOP to go on the offensive with the power of the state like this AND weaponization serves to cast doubt on the motivations of the department in a way that protects the GOP from coming, legitimate investigations

NYC Comptroller casually drops his role in the City of New York's retirement systems before listing his demands for Target's Board after ICE used their parking lot to stage raids that led to a father being shot in the neck.
As Comptroller of the City of New York, I serve as investment adviser to, and custodian and a trustee of, the five New York City retirement systems (“the Systems”). The Systems are substantial long-term Target shareholders. I write to request that the Governance & Sustainability Committee immediately commission and oversee an independent, third‑party human rights risk assessment focused on Target’s interactions with federal law‑enforcement agencies, including how the company manages risks associated with the use of its property, facilities, and security practices.

People who don't rely on help from the state to exist (or know anyone who does) always assume that those who *really* need it can get it. That it's available and accessible for hypothetical "genuine cases". It never seems to occur to them that such a threshold of legitimate need does not exist.
