Deeply saddened by the news of Dolly Parton’s death. In Scotland, her Imagination Library inspired a love of reading and provided thousands of free books for children. Her warmth, generosity and her music were truly one of a kind. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

This week an estimated 40,000 Scots have taken over Boston for the World Cup. Kilts and the brogue are everywhere. They call themselves The Tartan Army. My better half feels like he's gone home! The bars and restaurants are filled. They'regreat tourists! #Scotland #TheWorldCup #SoMuchFun

Street in Boston semi-closed to put out tables and chairs for World Cup visitors. There are bagpipes being played everywhere.

Every bar in Boston is filled with Scotsmen singing and chanting. They're a lot of fun!

2 men in kilts and a 3rd in shorts. This is now our norm for the next week. All over the city. They're true soccer fane.

Big news from the World Cup this morning. Scots fans gave the statue of George Washington near Boston's Fenway Park their highest accolade. And don't even think about taking it down until the Tartan Army have gone home, it'll reappear before the cherry picker is back in the garage.

Some highlights from a productive first day in Boston - visited Harvard University to discuss strengthening research links with Scotland, had meetings about investment and trade to back Scottish jobs, and bumped into more Tartan Army fans who all seem in high spirits!
