This is why every boomer-ass “don’t pay them until they make a deal” proposal pisses me off so much. Like yeah, cool, make it *even more* so that only the independently wealthy can afford to be in congress. Excellent idea.

Like I truly don’t understand how you could have been anywhere in the vicinity of Springfield Ohio even before the election and thought that he’d only go after “criminals.” Trump, Vance, and CO werent subtle in the slightest. I can only really conclude this was a lie the median voter told themselves

Good evening to Juan Linz. Presidentialism was a grave mistake. Impeachment is literally the only mechanism we have. Failing to even try to use it is total failure. A constitutional order like this, in the face of such unprecedented corruption & constitutional crimes, is not really worth saving.

I would just like to note that the Allies started winning WW2 when they moved from naming their tanks after racist Confederate loser traitors (Stuart, Lee) to naming them after righteous Union winners (Sherman). The British caught on to this earlier, renamed the Lee the Grant, and never looked back.

Anthropic executives thought maybe the Pope and the Catholic Church in general hadn't thought too much about it and could be convinced by their presentation that AI was alive. Sometimes religious illiteracy bites you in the butt. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/29/u...
But the moral mission that Anthropic and the Vatican shared — human flourishing in the age of A.I. — had developed a deep fault line along the question of consciousness.

Just days before arriving at the Vatican in May, Mr. Olah and other speakers saw a full advance copy of the encyclical text for the first time.

Mr. Olah was so alarmed by the pope’s strong position against A.I. consciousness that he proposed pulling Anthropic out of the event, even at that late juncture, according to a Vatican organizer.

In the end, Mr. Olah and Anthropic decided to go forward with the appearance. Mr. Olah wanted to support the event despite his disagreements, but felt a responsibility to be honest about his concerns, according to a person familiar with his thinking. Organizers at the Vatican encouraged Mr. Olah to speak his conscience.

I prefer the incremental solution that can be implemented through bare-majority legislation (240 Supreme Court justices) to Third Way's radical plan, which requires fully amending the Constitution (term limits)
