For all that it's been barely reported in the UK press, it's still hard to understate the importance of the stance @labourunionsuk.bsky.social has taken on trans and non-binary rights this week. Every single trade union affiliated to the party of government has stood up and said we will not comply.

The RNLI has said the abuse of volunteers in Portsmouth has forced it to close the lifeboat station there and stop operating since September 10. Nearby stations have been providing cover to the area instead. One of the UK's largest coastal cities without a lifeboat because of the far-right.

Burnham does have a dilemma. He can call out the fascists, but to do so properly he has to confirm that their 'concerns' aren't 'legitimate', and by doing so he in effect would be saying that Mahmood's immigration policy has no basis. There's a reason for that. It *has* no basis.
