Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

Does ingroup love lead to outgroup hate? I often tell people that identifying with ingroups does not always lead to outgroup discrimination. I call this the "Myth of tribalism". A new paper provides strong and robust evidence for a positive relationship between ingroup and outgroup prosociality.!

Train stations are often undervalued & underused community assets. Love to see them being used in this way. “We have noticed incredible amounts of wildlife, bees particularly. Honeybees, solitary bees, butterflies. That has changed a lot, we have seen the return of hedgehogs, we have slowworms.”

I don't know what it's going to take for UK Gov to address the threat of extremism in Britain. I want to make it clear: Neither the Home Office, MHCLG or indeed Whitehall have a proper analysis of the scale and impact of the problem, nor a proper strategic plan. Our national cohesion is threatened.

Important point. Pleased to be working to create these opportunities in Bristol through Schools Linking. Struck by the appetite for this programme amongst teachers - we’re working with c.40 classes this year. So much more could be done to bring young people together, especially in secondary school

This is a critical point that’s repeatedly ignored. If you’re under 45 there’s a good chance you’re still working in 2050 when we should be at net zero. If you’re under 25 there’s a good chance you’re alive in 2100 when current trends suggest we’ll be at 3C of warming and all that comes with it.
