Juul Verbakel and Jan de Boer interrogate the impact of microscale topography on Golgi morphology and function. Highlight: journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/... Article: journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/...
Figure showing that pillar-induced confinement results in loss of Golgi ribbon integrity. hMSCs were cultured on polystyrene pillar-enhanced surfaces, as well as on unconfined control surfaces, for 24 h and stained for GM130, α-tubulin, F-actin and DNA to visualize the Golgi morphology, microtubule network, F-actin organization and nuclei, respectively. (A,B) Representative images of two biological replicates showing that confinement introduced by the presence of micro-pillar patterns results in reorganization of the Golgi architecture, characterized by a varying level of compaction of the Golgi complex. Scale bars: 20 μm. (C–H) Heterogenous distribution of Golgi structural integrity and positioning on pillar D. Representative images of two biological replicates. Scale bars: 20 μm.
