Incredible work by Heidi Blake, who not only talked to victims of the Tates, but also to the Tates. This is one of those works of journalism that reminds you how little we often know about things or people, like Andrew Tate, who are always in the news. And yet, so much about them remains unreported.

Protests in Southampton tonight. Do NOT give the state ANY excuse to throw you in prison. Because they will use anything.

I know people are angry. I am angry. But do not throw your life away doing something you will later regret.

The police need to treat protestors fairly, and any unacceptable behaviour by any officers must be recorded and called out.

But I will say this again.

Do not get violent.

That is not how we win.

We win at the ballot box, peacefully and democratically.

We win by electing Restore Britain across our country.

It's the only way.

One thing that unites these people, above all else, is there never ending, self-pitying WHINING. The "very painful things" they wrote were facts that you avoided tax, had to pay millions in fines, hid it whilst Chancellor then threatened legal action against anyone who reported it.

I think the misogynist contempt that’s evident as a motivation in the murder of Renee Good makes her killing by a state actor more similar to so-called private violence—eg domestic violence homocides—than some arguments that rely on a firm distinction between state and private violence can sustain.

I wrote this almost 11 years ago theweek.com/articles/444...
When heavy military equipment is taken from its original context and placed in the hands of a domestic law-enforcement agency with little training in wartime scenarios, it becomes nothing more than an instrument of intimidation. It simply has no other purpose. Wearing jungle camouflage in an urban setting, pointing guns at civilians, driving around pointlessly in an armored personnel carrier — all of these egregiously violate military best practices. This is playing soldier dress-up to scare the pants off the locals — except the guns are real.

Notice also how many of these riot cops have their faces completely covered by gas masks and insect goggles. That is almost never seen in recent wars, because covering the face makes a soldier look less human, which is directly at odds with modern counterinsurgency thinking.

But covering the face to dehumanize the enemy is a common feature in first-person shooter games (like Half Life 2 and the Killzone series), where the player often has to slaughter them by the score. Doing it to oneself is, I think, a deliberate effort to broaden the emotional distance between law enforcement and the people who are being forced into submission.

It turns out that when you put normal cops into soldier gear, you don't get soldiers. You get paramilitary goons.

thank you Private Eye for taking apart this flakey headline-grabbing research
"LONDON drops down wealth list as super-rich move out," blared a Times splash on 9 April, reporting that there are supposedly 11,300 fewer "dollar millionaires" in the British capital than there were last year - the fastest fall of any global city except Moscow, as the wealthy move their money abroad.
The story was also reported by the Telegraph, Express, Daily Mail and Evening Standard, while the Times returned to the subject next day in a 1,300-word feature. Even culture secretary Lisa Nandy responded to the alleged exodus, blaming it on Brexit, not the Labour government. But how accurate are those remarkably specific figures?
They come from South Africa-based outfit
New World Wealth, commissioned by "advisory firm" Henley & Partners. As pointed out by the New Statesman's Will Dunn back in January, but not mentioned in the Times, Henley & Partners sells advice to rich people about financial planning, and consults governments on
"investment migration" policies - so is opposed to higher taxes on rich people.
And while New World Wealth puts out seemingly definitive figures, they come up with them using "models" based on tracking the online footprints of a far smaller number of people, without actually knowing where they pay tax. Moreover, when contacted by the Eye, the company offered another important caveat, saying it was "important to note" that "most of" the decline in wealth in London over the past decade was not actually down to people leaving the UK, but poor performance of local businesses and a decline in the FTSE 100, which it also uses to collate its reports estimating relative global wealth. So the super-rich in question may well still be here, just not so super-rich any more.
The unreliability of New World Wealth's
"data" and what it actually means hasn't stopped hacks reporting on a mass evacuation by the rich over government policies, which has become an accepted truth. Those figures seemed to have an effect on the chancellor: soon afterwards Rachel Re…
