This is the most ghastly story- a “will they, won’t they” debate about whether Tennessee will execute a woman today - leaving her in tortured limbo. The death penalty is abhorrent and should not be allowed in a civilized society.

A glimpse into a distant time when this isle was a land of giants. Castell Henllys Iron Age Village, Pembrokeshire, Wales, is beautifully situated in fine wooded countryside; from a distance, it gives the impression that ancient folk still live here and that we’re somehow intruding on their privacy.
Reconstruction of an Iron Age camp of large thatched round houses situated amid trees on a hillside. A field is seen in the foreground while the sky is grey above. One of the thatched round houses is bigger than the others.

It’s a mark of the corruption of our whole way of thinking about the world that trying to meet a planetary emergency is routinely described as “ideological”, while continuing to accelerate it is presented as “pragmatic” and “economic”.

The Sharp TRP801 (1960)
A portable television, in a very 'space age' case: the top is ivory but the sides and frontispiece are cherry red. Twin antenna sprout from the back, a silver tilted carry handle sprouts from the top, and a huge silver grille allows both airflow and speaker. There are a bare minimum of controls on the top of the device itself: an on/off push toggle, a silver tuning dial, a rotary display behind a glass window for current station, and recessed plastic wheels for h-hold, v-hold, brightness, and volume.

The face of battle stares upwards now, all faded and forlorn; a figure fit for fighting here lies fast in endless sleep. The effigy to the Lancastrian Sir Thomas Wendesley (or Wensley) who died at the battle of Shrewsbury in 1403 is one of several at All Saints, Bakewell, Derbyshire. #TombTuesday
Top half of an alabaster effigy to an early fifteenth century knight. He wears an open face bascinet with a circlet above. A chain of S shapes, symbolic of loyalty to the house of Lancaster, is worn around his neck and lies upon his chain mail aventail. His hands have been broken off and were once shown at prayer. His arms are fully plated while his chest shows that he was wearing a padded jupon bearing his coat of arms. A stone floor can be seen in the background while next to him is a wicker basket with unlit small devotional candles.
