This is a good, newish account (pun unintentional, I promise) for agricultural things. Some of the data comes from: www.amis-outlook.org/home (FAO/UN, regular stats, occasional articles) farmdocdaily.illinois.edu (does what it says on the tin) All three are 👍

this is a good thread by Ben. I'll boil it all down to one thing: labor demand has been low. It's likely bottomed, but isn't rising quickly...yet. Without stronger labor demand, openings are low, so hires are low, so quits are low, so fewer wages are set at the market rate, so wage growth is slow.

WaPo reports that Trump is stealing money again, this time money appropriated for (among others) Eastern Europe and sending it to Latin America. But I think stealing $$ from Iraq is just as important. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...
Late Wednesday, the administration quietly notified Congress it was defying the hold and moving ahead, diverting to Panama, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia $52 million that had been approved for Slovakia, North Macedonia, Tunisia and Iraq, the officials said. They spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss security matters.

I think we are going to recognize that cognitive offloading at society scale results in mass deskilling and functional decline. There are ways to prevent it, but like critical thinking, they require energy expenditure and training.

The sort of world view that Hegseth stands for is an inherently unstable equilibrium, a doomed enterprise. It's unable to cope with what even modest levels of abstract reasoning built on basic education can pull off, let alone vastly more powerful social systems.

(my two cents) Gross #debt is not the constraint. The #real constraints are the distribution of financial claims, the currency denomination of liabilities, real resource capacity, inflation, interest-rate policy and institutional monetary arrangements, @MartinWolf_ @FT www.ft.com/content/a120...

The answer to cognitive overload is not more technology!! The answer is a functional society. And that begins with reforming our incredibly dysfunctional institutional structure that allows predatory technology to be installed in classrooms and sold as consumer products.
