StoneX not afraid to piss off farmers.....raised its soybean crop estimate today and hiked the yield to 54.1 bushels/acre, from 53.0 previously. USDA is at 52.8. Lowered its corn crop estimate, but still well above USDA. It's yield estimate is 182.1 versus 182.9 previously. USDA down at 178.5.

Many years ago, I had an interview with a very prestigious newspaper for a full-time stringer job. It was framed as a casual conversation so I brought a hot Dunkin coffee. Thought I was going to get the gig. Did not. And now whenever I think about not getting the gig, I think about that coffee.

Only 0.67% of US agricultural land is foreign-held. The vast majority of that is forest land. Canada is by a wide margin the largest single origin of foreign farmland owners in the US.

*GROUP LINKED TO RFK JR. SOLD ACCESS TO US OFFICIALS AT EVENT *MAHA SUMMIT SOLICITED $300,000 SPONSORSHIPS FROM COMPANIES *HHS SAYS OFFICIALS WEREN'T AWARE OF SPONSORSHIP ARRANGEMENTS
(Bloomberg) -- A nonprofit group with ties to US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. solicited payment from companies in exchange for access to top agency officials at an upcoming event, according to documents viewed by Bloomberg News.
Ahead of the MAHA Summit on Sept. 29, a menu of sponsorship options was circulated to companies and consultants with various tiers of support, according to people familiar with the solicitations who weren’t authorized to speak publicly. The highest level, quoted at $300,000 to some prospective sponsors, guaranteed a speaking slot at the event “with meaningful input on the panel composition and topic” as well as a “private dinner for 30 guests” with Kennedy and Mehmet Oz, head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The organization running the event is part of a web of interconnected groups that comprise Kennedy’s external political network. It’s unusual for a Cabinet member to maintain an active political operation.HHS spokesperson Emily Hilliard said in a written statement that “department officials listed as speakers were not involved in the planning or sponsorship activities for the MAHA Summit and were not aware of the sponsorship arrangements described.”
Kennedy has long criticized the health agencies he now oversees for being captured by corporate influences they are meant to regulate.
Companies that have signed on to sponsor the MAHA Summit include Anthropic, OpenAI, Walmart Inc., Hims & Hers Health Inc., Centene Corp., Tempus AI Inc. and Compass Pathways Plc, according to the event website. It’s unclear how much each contributed, though the most prominently featured logos are sleep apnea devicemaker ResMed Inc., whose chief medical officer is appearing on a panel with National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya, and cancer screening company Grail Inc., whose chief executive officer is speaking in another session.

How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been? danluu.com/zitron/

Feb 2024: "I believe we're reaching the upper limits about what generative AI can do and how accurate its outputs can be."
        Wrong4
March 2024: "Have We Reached Peak AI?"; another prediction that hallucinations mean that AI progress is limited to then-current levels
        Wrong
April 2024: "As I previously warned, artificial intelligence companies are running out of data ..."; another prediction that models can't improve because there's no more data
        Wrong
June 2024: OpenAI growth is stalling (with the implication it will continue to stall), which will lead to some kind of collapse of OpenAI
Wrong (it could be the case that OpenAI will collapse but, if so, it won't be due to any kind of growth stall from 2024)
July 2024: "Generative AI, as I said back in March, is peaking, if it hasn't already peaked. It cannot do much more than it is currently doing, other than doing more of it faster with some new inputs"
        Wrong
July 2024: "Generative AI models aren’t getting more energy-efficient, nor are they getting more “powerful” in a way that would increase their functionality, nor are they even capable of automating things on their own [July 2024]"
        Wrong5
August 2024: "generative AI is a dead-end technology that has peaked”
        Wrong
August 2024: re-iteration that the AI bubble has 3 quarters to prove itself (from March 2024) or there will be a collapse
        Wrong6
September 2024: "o1 shows that OpenAI is both desperate and out of ideas", with a re-iteration of the idea that models can't improve due to lack of data
        Wrong
Oct 2024: OpenAI's forecast of $3.7B revenue in 2024 and $11.6B in 2025 and $100B in 2029 are absurd, "a statement so egregious that I am surprised it's not some kind of financial crime to say it out loud"
Wrong (2025 goal exceeded, 2029 TBD but not an egregious financial crime level of implausible)
Oct 2024: "[OpenAI revenue] growth is already slowing…
