Indeed. Two excellent paragraphs 🔽 (I did some "research" and the guy who fell off the deck was unsuccessful in his lawsuit; the guy with the bottle rocket in his bum - the stick presumably - might have escaped with potentially serious burns.)

One of the dumber ideas I've heard, and I've heard many. ;-) It doesn't sound like this does a thing to reduce consumption and it mucks up the price signal (we used to be a capitalist country) just to bribe voters with a 24 ct/gal tax phantom tax savings b/c the roads still need to be maintained.

Fertilizer: How bad is the phosphate (DAP & MAP) business in the US? So bad that this chart, when drawn for the about-to-end Q3, will have sulfur at $700/LT (source: Mosaic CEO). And an operating rate of 58% means a problem w/ fixed cost absorption. Nutrien somewhat better off b/c diversification.

Diesel cost in the US is a buck a mile right now (Assuming that's a good MPG value. No idea. I think this site uses only EIA-reported data so the prices should be pretty good) mondaydiesel.com/costpermile/...

Diesel fuel cost per mile: 100.4 cents/mi for the week of Sep 21, 2026 at a stated 6.5 mpg reference, from EIA's Monday on-highway diesel price. Fuel cost only.

Seems like a lot, and their entity-wide costs in little ol' Rochester, MN ought to be a lot less than NY or LA, perhaps except for the world class physicians and researchers that can name their price.

A commodity lesson, using Cal-Maine and eggs. You can be a very large, efficient operator but if you're a price taker you bump around +/- breakeven. HPAI hits but barely grazes you and it's Ka-Ching! HPAI mostly goes away in 2023 and 2026 and it's back to B/E or losing money. 1/2

New money-making idea: buy diesel in a neighboring state for $6.50/gal, smuggle it into Calif and sell it to shady people for something less than $8.00. **This violates state and federal taxation, environmental and who knows what other type of laws, but I bet someone's trying it**
