The more I learn about why some people support arresting and deporting undocumented immigrants, the more I realize that all too many people are incapable of unconditional love of humanity.

The belief that a thriving culture requires a sovereign state or demographic dominance is false. 3000+ years of diverse and thriving Jewish culture demonstrates that such beliefs are built on Imperial nation state concepts that led to both world wars.

I think there is a real opportunity to create an alliance between normie Liberals and Conservatives around the idea that accountability and standards do not in fact just spontaneously manifest in human societies in the way that Libertarians have claimed; government is in fact absolutely necessary.

How a Labor Union Bested the Political Establishment in New York
The United Auto Workers has grown in size by opening its tent to workers in white-collar professions, and by adopting democratic socialist stances. But its growth has also led to political friction.

Serious people do not give a shit if the tech sector is led by weirdos that have weird sex and believe idiotic things. What we care about is the creation of a functional administrative state staffed by a representative body of citizen domain experts that have the power to regulate the private sector

What about all the world class American academics, scholars, scientists, civil servants, lawyers and workers in every field whose work is poisoned by the lack of standards and independent oversight; at what point will they have had enough of incompetent bullies and demand structural reforms?

The snarling beast that lunges whenever its position at the top of the hierarchical status pyramid is challenged, sits right under the facade of civility. "How dare anyone confront me with my arrogance, incessant demand for attention, incoherence and ignorance!"

I don't understand how college degrees are granted when so many college grads are observably incoherent? Is it that specialization and quantitative domains have replaced knowing how to think?

Still thinking about this story, sorry, but I think part of the problem is that even reporters don't really know how depressing things are at schools where the kids are really struggling. The Title I school I taught at wasn't even the worst and we still had to take a day or 2 to process gun deaths

Knowledge and mobility have increased but the Western academy has utterly failed to update its preindustrial assumptions. Students should have no access to technology until about 9th grade. Those years should repeat gradually more complex lessons in knowing how to know and learning how to learn.

Fascism is the marriage of state and corporation. Democratic Party leaders have completely failed to meet the moment, and as a result inequality is worse than it was a hundred years ago and ordinary people have no bargaining power. Kick the cowards out.

In the past, mobility was limited and beliefs were rarely challenged by new knowledge. So why, when mobility and knowledge have increased tremendously over the past 150 years, has assumptions barely budged?

FIRE is not an independent government agency staffed by apolitical civil servants. Private non-profits are fundamentally market and donor actors. FIRE is as non-partisan as the money that keeps it alive. There is no such thing as a private organization that is apolitical and objective. 1/2

Influencers do not want answers. It's all about keeping the mystery and uncertainty going in the name of attention harvesting for personal gain. Sooo why don't we fund the Press directly like they do in functional democracies? Serious investigative journalism will crowd out the noise merchants.

For 50+ years Conservatives have done their very best to destroy the American Administrative state in the delusional belief that capital markets are self-organizing systems. The idiots were in the Temple long before Trump hijacked the Republican Party.

The tax curve is for maximization of revenue. Redistribution is for maximization of equal opportunity. The debate about progressive versus regressive curves is the equivalent of debating if heading West is better than East.

Market outcomes are products of market structure, and market structure follows from law. The fundamental flaw in American Capitalism; we allow business owners who succeed to use their money and influence to write the laws that decide who is allowed to compete with them.

Ok let me be more direct. Anthropic releases a model with a silly 44tn in the top line. They pick the economists to solicit and then publish their criticisms. Then Anthropic give interviews about how open it all is. Just blatant manipulation of the broken education and media structures in the West.
