Lake Washington Boulevard feels like a ghost town today now that's it's back open to cars. It's such a beautiful weekend, it would be a rolling party of people of all ages walking, roller skating, scooting, skate boarding and biking. But instead we have this.

It's hard to assess the exact number, because it would have varied with use of the density bonus, but the drop in base zoning height from 12 to 7 stories appears to have resulted in the loss of about 600 transit-oriented homes. That is major loss for the climate and affordability.

Peter, a neighborhood that directly benefits from direct adjacency a massive region-wide transit system has no right to dictate density on a level as granular as this. If you want to exert this level of control over "neighborhood character" move at least a mile away from any place this urbanized.

The Recurring Speed Camera Discourse is a bit exasperating really because, look, we all know what's actually happening is people just want to be able to commit the pertinent crimes and don't like being punished for it, but people come up with obvious post-hoc pseudo-woke rationalisations for this.

I would like to see more companies admit this - being a public company no longer means running a successful, thriving business. It strictly means delivering growth to investors, every single quarter, who do not care at all about the product the company sells or the people who produce it.

Statement on Funding Universal School Meals Starting this Fall

"Seattle has spoken overwhelmingly in support of universal school meals. Let's give a ton of credit to the teachers, parents and students who mobilized for free breakfast and lunch for every student. This is a priority of my office and we did the work to find a fiscally responsible path to fund universal school meals within the FEPP levy, which didn't require cutting services or eliminating jobs. Yesterday, the Council voted 6-3 to walk away from it.Now Council is proposing to pull this funding from our general fund, which is already facing a $175 million deficit. I look forward to seeing which critical services they plan to cut from the general fund to make their numbers work. I ask them to reconsider the fiscally responsible approach my office originally put forward. Feeding every student in Seattle is a goal we share, and my office is eager to work with the Council to find the best path forward."

CM Maritza Rivera has a full council amendment to the STM forcing SDOT to report on Metro's on-time performance, overcrowding, and "efficiency" by route. Or Rivera could visit Metro's PUBLIC RIDER DASHBOARD, which already contains all of this information. app.powerbigov.us/view?r=eyJrI...
Section 8. One-time reporting. The Seattle Department of Transportation, in
partnership with King County Metro, shall provide a report on the performance
outcomes for bus routes that travel within one-quarter mile of public middle schools,
public high schools, and community centers. The report should inform potential
additional service delivery to these routes to accommodate the timely attendance at
school or scheduled events at these locations of school students, school staff, and
youth, prioritizing these individuals’ safety both while waiting for buses and while in
transit. For each such route, the report should analyze the service levels throughout the
day and how the service provided aligns with the commitments of the Frequent Transit
Network, the efficiency of the route and ability of drivers to keep to an on-time schedule,
and the reliability of these routes. The report should also reflect, for each such route,
any regular occurrences of overcrowding (a bus’s lack of capacity to admit all who wish
to board at a given stop, or the need to skip a stop or stops due to lack of capacity),
particularly (1) during peak daily travel times or “rush hour” and (2) in the sections of the
route that contain stops within one-quarter mile of public middle schools, public high
schools, and community centers. The report should also make recommendations for
