Who do you want to have the final say on street safety projects in historic districts: 1) The Seattle Department of Transportation’s Chief Transportation Safety Officer Or 2) Historic boards SDOT could consult historic boards to ensure a continuity of character without giving them a veto on safety

🧵 Solutions to keep people safe while traveling on our streets are known. @transportation.seattle.gov has the expertise to fix dangerous streets, but they are often hobbled by red tape and "the Seattle Process." Example: unelected historic districts board can veto proposed safety projects.

Pike Place should put people first year-round. In SDOT’s June survey, 98% of 5,403 respondents supported vehicle barriers. And among 224 Market businesses & staff who responded, 96% agreed. Yet the proposal for this winter would allow more general car traffic into the Market.

Today is a big day for Vision Zero in Seattle. 🚸 Mayor Katie Wilson signed an Executive Order to accelerate safety improvements on our most dangerous streets. Seattle Streets Alliance has pushed for this urgency for years. The goal: everyone gets home safely. A meaningful step forward.
