There was the then very newsworthy siege of Venice in the mid 19thC (lasted a year) and "siege" dances were a common form of country-house dance in Britain and Ireland. Ennis never had town walls or any recorded siege. My father who played a mean siege figured Venice was the original name.

"A language is a dialect with an army" (or an EU council seat), and no remaining-monoglots argument could nearly apply to Dutch or Danish nowadays (would Norway face same "dialect" of Danish pushback if it asked to join, doubt it?). Then there's Maltese ,the EU's only official semitic language.

Two minds over this, all judicial executions are barbaric, that clown show in Tennessee was worse than a firing squad (ensures an effective low-skill kill).
