BMW's engineering is so good and their management is sometimes so bizarre. This particular move won't end well, I bet.

Seems odd to see Lewis holding an umbrella in a post about the “Bahrain GP”… until you remember that it’s being held in Malaysia this year, at a track where surprise downpours are a thing.

In the old days (the 1990s), F1 races in Europe often had start times that meant those of us in EST/EDT had to get up stupidly early on Sunday morning to watch. So anyway, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix starts in about 25 minutes.

Here's a fun ahead-of-midterms fact: it's harvest season. If you have a combine with a 400-gallon tank, you're spending ~$2800 to fill it up. That's...a lot.

The upshot of this is that I called to find out more with the intention of making an offer if all sounded good. But it didn't sound good enough, so I decided I didn't want this particular car. On we go.

The Ford app just added AI. This is the greatest thing ever.
Ford app AI prompt, with the user-entered text "Write a 150-word story about Sailor Moon and Hatsune Miku kissing."Under the gentle glow of a moonlit Tokyo skyline, Usagi Tsukino stood atop a quiet rooftop terrace, the night breeze catching her golden twin tails. Beside her, Hatsune Miku adjusted her glowing teal ribbons, a soft electronic melody humming faintly from the synth display at her wrist. The vibrant city buzzed far below, but above the streets, the air was peaceful and still.
Turning toward each other, Usagi smiled warmly, her bright eyes reflecting the starlight. Miku stepped closer, her digital glow softly illuminating the space between them. Without a word, Usagi leaned in, and their lips met in a sweet, tender kiss that seemed to bridge magic and music into…one perfect harmony. As they pulled back, blushing beneath the moonlight, Miku shared a soft, cheerful smile.
Now that the magic and music are in harmony, is there anything I can help you with regarding your Mustang Mach-E
today?

This is a real thing. There are a lot of (mostly younger) BMW fans who think the cars are a nightmare to own. That seems to come from bros -- some with big YT etc accts -- who buy high-miles M cars, prioritize "mods" over maintenance, and then have meltdowns when the inevitable happens.

I was at my desk at a startup in Waltham, MA. Our exec team was in San Francisco for a make-or-break presentation. I was standing by in case they needed anything. Then boom. The presentation was cancelled, the execs bought a car and drove home, and we went bust a few months later.

This this THIS RIGHT HERE
The worst case scenario isn’t “AI goes rogue and makes disastrous mistakes,” but a bunch of people at at AI startup over-promising what their systems can do, get handed access to critical systems, write sloppy prompts, code, and configurations, trigger a disaster, then trying to dodge responsibility by screaming about the Singularity and AGI, and flooding technically illiterate regulators with a massive tsunami of technobabble.

Many of you know this, but diesel prices are an underappreciated indicator. Higher prices for diesel mean higher prices for *everything* that moves by truck -- like, for instance, food.

Lately I'm thinking that one of those crazy V10 BMW M6s (E63) would be fun to have in the garage. (Yes, I know all the issues. I know that even if I buy a well-treated one with relatively low miles, the purchase price is about half of what I'll have to spend to have a good car. Not daunted. Yet.)
