Indeed, with a handful of exceptions, I can't of many electoral studies academics who would recommend SV at all, and certainly not for Westminster elections. You would need to set the term of reference to say something like "to end up recommending SV".

Long shot but do any cinéphiles out there remember the name for the image-slowing/halting technique Godard used in Sauve Qui Peut (La Vie)? It looks nothing like slow motion, although that was the title the film was given for UK release.

This is how I sometimes feel about Godard's 1960s movies, and it's a shock to realise that they're further away in time than the heroic period of cubism was in 1967.

The state of French right wing politics these days. Pupils demanding the most basic things - desks, teachers! - and the response is to try to blame the LFI. Ludicrous.

I had no idea how bad things had got in the lycées, especially in working class areas - pupils are demanding the most basic things: enough teachers, repairs to the fabric, *desks*.

This is a dreadful argument from Burnham. Empirically false - almost 6m people were granted settled status; about 4m are currently resident. More importantly panders to racism/xenophobia, and directly contradicts argument made in his speech about migrant contributions.

The raw visceral hatred some men have for women, at least women who step out of line, is shocking. I know it sounds like some sorta "one of the good ones" ploy but I am genuinely taken aback when I see it because I think: I had a fairly normal socialisation as a man in the west, how did I miss this?

The problem of social care is largely one of a missing insurance market. The obvious solution is to pay for care via general taxes, treating these as if they were insurance premia. Cutting benefits or the triple lock are bad alternatives.

Hey, it's my first week as the PSNI 's Head of Threat Assessment. Now to take a big sip of coffee and check the news...
Excerpt from RTE News article on Orange Order March down Garvaghy road.
"The commission says it carefully considered those representations, but it seems the input from the PSNI was significant in their decision-making.

"The police have stated ... that they have no information indicating that the parade will result in public disorder or damage to property if it proceeds along its notified route."
