The (relatively recently) learned inability of so many native speakers to pronounce the word 'sixth' is a strange thing.

It is also unusual for such an intimate depiction. The knights are positioned in an intimate manner you would more commonly see a married couple, with arms touching and the knight on the left facing the knight on the right.

VAT cuts for the 'hospitality' trade don't ever seem to make things cheaper for customers. Would another tax cut do it?

It has come as a considerable surprise to me to learn today that I someone I used to have dealings with long ago in the penumbra of professional light (but not quite vulgar) entertainment is now a bishop.

"The main reason why I stopped putting alt text on snaps on Bluesky is that I have to type them blind: the keyboard on the app covers where I'm typing. The second reason is that next to nobody looks at my posts." "I'll never repost your stuff in that case."

Melleray was a strange place even before this, not least because of the credence of the former Cistercian community in a fake moving statue under their spiritual care. A relentlessly odd diocese too for 2026, the diocese of Waterford and Lismore (at least in the plenitude of the priesthood).

It has emerged that 'the lads' once again arranged to go by train to Westport today for a long weekend and once again forgot to tell me. Last year and now this. Three would begin to look like a pattern.

I had a friend who taught himself Spanish mainly to be able to read García Lorca properly. Seeing his wicker coffin being carried up the church aisle, I wondered if the investment was worthwhile.

In the 19th century, was there in English a refined, ultra-highbrow literary fiction published by small presses that was read mostly or even exclusively by a tiny cultural intellectual elite - work far more demanding on its readers than Austen and Dickens and Eliot and Hardy and Trollope?
