Basement membrane turnover controls cell shape
Basement membranes are scaffolds of proteins, like collagen, that give organs shape. During development, basement membranes must adapt to the growing organ. We infer how fast the basement membrane ada...

Adhesion-driven rigidity transition decoupled from density-driven jamming triggers epithelial organization in embryonic tissues - Nature Physics
Tissue phase transitions are key to morphogenesis. Now adhesion-driven rigidification is identified as key to epithelial organization but only if uncoupled from density-driven jamming.

Funding a research institute of some hundred people for 10 years? 1.5 Billion. Funding continued defense of a small country in a war for 2 or so years? 90 Billion. Elon Musk’s personal wealth? Estimated 750 Billion. We are fine! Please move on, there is nothing to see here… 🙏

Many years in the making but now finally online! What determines the temperature scaling and thermal limits of cell cycle duration in embryos? We tackled the question using a combination of dynamical systems analysis and experimental measurements in embryos and in cycling Xenopus extracts.
A plot showing the duration of the early embryonic cell cycle of 5 different species as a function of temperature. Higher temperatures mean faster cycles, up to an optimum, beyond which the cycles slow down and eventually stop.
