Alberta separatism isn’t just an Alberta problem. It’s a sign of a much deeper issue in Canadian politics
The collapse of political competition and winner-takes-all mentality has allowed fringe elements to hijack mainstream political parties.

I was wondering if Canada was making it feasible for Haitian-Americans formerly protected under TPS to come here. Very glad to see that appears to be the case. I hope we accelerate supports and streamline this process.

Ontario Liberals are being cheated by a system that's left them third in seats twice in a row despite winning the second most votes. It is time the party takes electoral reform seriously. Great to see @ericlombardi.ca call for a binding citizens' assembly!
A screenshot of a policy document titled "DEMOCRACY & GOVERNANCE · THE PLAN" at the top.

A large heading reads "01 Restore Pride In Our Democracy" in bold black and red text.

The main paragraph text reads: "Make Ontario’s elected institutions actually work: MPPs who legislate, ministers who decide, voters whose choices reflect their preferences, and a government held to account for what it delivers. Smaller cabinet, stronger Legislature, more electoral choice."

Below this, a bullet point highlighted with a red square reads: "Form a binding citizens’ assembly to select a new electoral system. Pass legislation to create the assembly and implement its chosen system by the next election, guided by two simple principles: every vote must count, and local representation must be retained."

Arts and culture aren’t a luxury—they’re the heartbeat of Vancouver. As someone who devoted years to studying and playing music, I know how vital our creative spaces are. My time studying music created the foundation for how I approach my work and advocacy. Thank you, Diederik, for the support!
Endorsement for Peter Waldkirch for Council from Diederik van Dijk, Professional Cellist: "I have known Peter since the early 2000s, when we were both getting music degrees at UBC. I have always admired his passion and integrity. He is that rare breed: a pragmatic idealist, who has a deep understanding of the challenges Vancouver faces, particularly when it comes to housing. Peter envisions a more inclusive future for everyone trying to build a life in this city, and he also cares deeply about arts and culture. I know he would be an outstanding City Councillor."

A quick reminder of what #BigFebruary is about… Thanks to the magic of the cosmos, we start gaining daylight much faster in Feb than in Jan. Over 20 mins a week - setting us up for Spring. This chart is by @neilrkaye.bsky.social and is one of my all time favourites.
Chart by Neil Kaye showing the lengthening and shortening of daylight hours in southern Britain each week through the year. Each bar represents how much daylight is gained or lost each week.
The line is roughly a sine curve (head blown emoji), with the fastest daylight gains in Feb, March and April, and the fastest losses in Aug, Sep and October.
