Be a government that has been in power long enough to get tired of it, be in a tough reelection bid and turn to LNG development as an economic booster shot. Pic unrelated

it is quite confusing that “inclusionary zoning” is not the opposite of “exclusionary zoning”, but actually functions as a tool of exclusionary zoning

There is a real chance the internal conservative dysfunction was suppressing their support and with Eby's election call pushing them to get their house in order, they're rebounding to their 2024 levels of support

Everyone, stop what you are doing. I've discovered there is a politician called Teresa May running for city council in British Columbia. And this is from one of her campaign videos. Never have two people with the same name had such different vibes.

yeah it's just... I don't think young idealistic socialists are given nearly enough context to understand how powerful the information transmission function of markets are or how much information gets lost through every other method

So Eby avoided being entirely sunk by the DRIPA quagmire that almost got him in the spring by punting it to the fall and we all got consumed by other things over the summer. But its still there and no way it doesn’t come up in a campaign. Do we think he used the bought time to figure out a path?

"Students on University of California campuses may struggle with basic math, but they are graduating at record rates." This is, astonishingly, an actual quote from someone arguing in favour of maintaining the admissions status quo at the UCs.

Conservatives looked at a moment where there has been more appetite for right of centre governance than any point in the last 15 years and decided to make themselves completely unelectable. Just incredible work by those with terminal Twitter brain poisoning.

Question for the walking political history encyclopedias, who has had the shortest stint as a party leader in Canadian history? At less than 6 months Findlay has to be among them, right?

I think one of the (repeated) lessons here is that more consultation ≠ more buy-in. We'd be better off if planners put in temporary measures they think are best & then adapted quickly to complaints rather than doing half year cycles of consultation & adjustments.

The why did the buildings fall straight down conspiracy mongering is always funny to me. Like what other direction would you expect them to fall? Were you expecting gravity in Manhattan to pull things sideways? It would have been weird if they fell any other way.

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
A flow chart I have created with multiple questions and the answers determine where you're from.

Question 1 is do you call it a hydro bill (which then branches down to ON, QC, BC, MB) or an electric bill (which then branches down to SK, AB, NS, NB, PEI, NL)

Question 2 is do you call it a cabin (BC, MB, AB, SK) cottage (ON and atlantic) camp (northern Ontario) chalet (QC) or bungalow (Cape Breton)

To delineate BC from MB: do you call it dinner or supper

To delineate southern Ontario rural or big city: have you heard of a stag & doe

To delineate SK from AB: do you call a hoodie a bunnyhug

And finally to delineate NL from the other atlantic provinces: whaddayat? (Correct answer: dis is it b'y)
