I've said this in some of our book talks, but as an advocate I think spending a lot of time trying to find common ground with "someone on the other side" is generally a waste of time. It's much more effective to identify latent supporters of the things you want in the world and get them to join you.

This is such good framing! I would love to see what it looks like to build a greenfield neighbourhood that breaks even for the city.

Why do people get mad at new apartments for being expensive, but are totally fine with the city creating entire mansion-only neighborhoods? If you think an expensive apartment isn't helping you, a poor renter, that can only be more true for a $10 million mansion.

This is a tough election for pro-housing voters—we don't even have 10 good council candidates, let alone a solid mayor choice. But here's what I can say: please do NOT vote for Stephanie Smith (Green). She consistently opposes the pro-housing movement and will only set the city back.

As the "progressive unity" candidate, some hoped Pete Fry would reach out to the pro-housing movement. Nope. The new Green platform basically promises to fight the provincial housing targets. Those targets are already too low—asking permission to build even less is pure NIMBY catnip.

Planners want arterials to be everything; a transit corridor, a place for added housing, a place for all businesses, and a throughput for vehicles and freight. Unless you scratch the latter out, the road will be dangerous, loud, and polluted, which will kill people and make life miserable there

Pro-actively building out a protected and CONNECTED bike network is a really great priority. Right now we rely a lot on development to build active transpo infrastructure, which is why so much of it is piecemeal, unconnected...and useless in getting less confident cyclists out of their cars.
