Think tanks will soon start releasing non-peer-reviewed modeling of how the permitting bill might affect pollution, if they haven't already. Most will secretly have lots of ideology-driven thumbs on scales. One big way to tip the scales is by ignoring pollution associated with oil and gas exports.

Joe Biden was too old to be president. Trump is the same age as Biden was when he was president. And it’s obvious that Trump is less mentally healthy than Biden was. So when will the media report that the president’s brain is broken? If the answer is “never,” that means the media are broken too.

Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.

the thing about impeaching Vought is that it will ruin his life. pull his kids and wife in for sixteen hour depositions. refer them all for perjury. scream in his face. when you're done, if it didn't work, do it again.

I never thought I was any good at spotting the Big Dipper but turns out it’s just right there. Has been this entire time. Looming like a postcard town’s church steeple. I thought of one of those videos where they put glasses on a blind baby and it sees its parents for the first time.
October 18, 2025

The four of us stumbled out across the sand in the dark toward where the tongue of the water lapped at the high tide line and stood silently for some time listening to the collected absences. The universal and the personal. My god the stars are so close and low up here one of us said and we all looked up in unison.

I thought of the Laura Gilpin poem about the two-headed calf. Then the Vincent D'Onofrio tweet about the pig.

A dwindling bonfire up around the bend of the shoreline.

Should I put on some music someone said and we all said sure by which we meant please do not and that was that. It was well past the end of the season and going to be cold at this time of night either way but the call of the water was persistent.

How much would it take for you to jump in right now one of us said and we all thought about it for a minute or two. Calculating the relative severity of wind and squealing distance back to the cottage. I guess I would do it for like $200 one of us said and it was deflating because it wasn’t enough to be excited about. No one gets a little jolt up the spine over $200. They really were quite close and low though. These stars. This is what everything is supposed to look like I thought. What it has always looked like. I never thought I was any good at spotting the Big Dipper but turns out it’s just right there. Has been this entire time. Looming like a postcard town’s church steeple.

I thought of one of those videos where they put glasses on a blind baby and it sees its parents for the first time. Everyone crying. In the video and the people watching at home too.

I felt the presence of my phone in my pocket whispering to me to try to take a picture of it all to alert the world to what the world actually is but then snapped to my senses and stood down.

I cannot translate this for any of you. Cannot break this news.

It’s no wonder that almost every story we ever told ourselves about creation came from people who drove themselves mad staring at all of this light above us.

I didn’t even get around to the full moon yet. Pregnant to bursting.

You could dream of something better even now if you looked at it all for too long. Maybe that’s why they had to dull the sky with toil and industry. A barricade against the divine.

Diced another way, for each one of the 8,990 low-income homes created by IZ over the 5-year study period, ~120 renter households paid an extra ~$110/month, adding up to ~$800k per IZ home. Not only is IZ regressive, it's also inefficient compared with other ways of funding affordable housing!

Give people an emoto & most won't ride very fast because riding fast on two wheels with nothing solid between you & anything you might crash into feels fast & scary. Give people a car & most will drive too fast. Because cars create the illusion of safety & we disassociate them from harms they do.

This is the "Three/Four" - an accessible passive house 9 plex that could work citywide within existing R1 zones. To work it would need: 1. Remove (or) increase the unit cap beyond 6 units 2. Increase max height ~3m 3. Increase building depth (but keep the same lot coverage) 4. Remove density fees

The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math." At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."
Ukrainian female soldier: Okay, I said the idea is this: There is enough time to empty one full can of 32 grenades and be gone by the time the return mortar fire reaches us. I did the math.

See also: Transit is not a natural resource. Places that have it have invested in it. If it is low quality, patchy or absent in your sub/urban area, it is because it has not been invested in. I bet motor infrastructure has though. That did not happen by accident & it does not have to stay that way.
