Was talking about academic skills w colleagues and one issue is how curriculum has been squeezed. We went from broader degrees of 4 years to BAs of 3 years which include 2 minors & general lectures. And academic skills is no longer given at some faculties cause budget & priorities 🫠 #academicsky

Interesting article for #BookHistory. According to Knippenberg “students have much shorter attention spans these days" but I think that goes for most folk. How many people do you know that read at least a fiction or non-fiction book of +/- 300 pages per year?

Bald is beautiful! And normal for blue jays (and cardinals) this time of year. Bluey is rocking the 'catastrophic molt' look, dropping all her head feathers at once. This happens in late summer, coinciding with the availability of fatty seeds and food abundance, allowing them to be replaced fast.

Historically, automation tech has commonly made more work for people: the issue is WHICH people. Whether as an excuse for owners to increase the requirements for expectations in a given day, lessen the labor expected of men while raising the expectations for women, etc. "AI" isn't exceptional.

I really appreciate this initiative, and I already peer review for diamond OA journals and am on the editorial board for one, but I think the info on the webpage conflates OA costs (free to read and publish) and other open research values. Not all diamond OA journals are scholar led for instance.
