My first story on the health beat is about the law that keeps 90% of Ontario's healthcare workers from being able to take strike action. It's being challenged by the Ontario Nurses' Association, but in the meantime, unions like CUPE say employers rely on the law to avoid bargaining in good faith.

I'm reflecting on my recent trip to Winnipeg and realizing it had its own version of "white flight" that's shaped what it's become (as well as the effects of changed global transportation patterns). Wealthy, often European families, left the streetcar suburbs for far flung suburbans.

#OttCity declared a climate crisis in 2019; since then we’ve seen record floods, extreme temp swings and otherwise. What concrete action have we taken? Sure electric buses are taking some load, and LRT could do some, but transit use has fallen due to unreliable service/high prices 1/

I talked to the drivers using the Laurier bike lane as a loading zone. They dismissed me saying that bikes can just use the sidewalk and balked at the idea of using a traffic lane because it would be dangerous for them. There's on-street parking a few meters away. #autowa #carbrained

The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.
