This guy almost had a very bad ending to his day today. Blowing through stop signs is already a bad idea, trying to pass a car at the same time is a recipe for disaster. Good reaction from the driver on this one, but they should used their turn signal. Hope everyone learned some lessons.

On the Tewin development, @mark-sutcliffe.bsky.social says he doesn't want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars fighting the development. "We shouldn't waste taxpayers money on a lost cause." Meanwhile in Kanata Lakes, he's spending millions to block 1,480 homes from being constructed there.

Shocked. Shocked, I say. How could this have happened? The water main there under O'Connor Street is only 123 years old (1903). Practically brand new! /s I'm sure the city was hoping to kick that can down the road for at least another decade. It's not even on the planned 5 year construction map.

Quick 311 response time today, they've already addressed the issue. The "fix" was to just turn off the water. Now water doesn't go in OR out. Taking bets if they even bother to repair it and turn it back on before the winterizing begins.

$50 million for rural roads (over 4 years) on top of existing funding levels. Where does this money come from? A reminder that LRT frequency was cut from 5 to 10 minutes to save $1.6 million/yr. 70,000 bus service hours were cut in New Ways to Bus to save $10 million/yr.

The city took took down this old slide and replaced it, just this week, with a used teeter-totter. I suppose it's good to see they're reusing something that still had some life in it, but it maybe could have used a little paint first? Anyone know which Ottawa park this comes from originally?

Wow. Look at how they "fixed" it. What I reported was a clogged drain on the fountain. Rather than actually unclogging the drain they just disconnected the pipe inside so that it leaks out onto the ground.

The city zoned these homes to allow for commercial use in a residential area and it's just ruined the whole neighbourhood! People are out on a Friday night at the wine bar and eating Vietnamese food on the patio! That patio probably used to be a parking spot that we've now lost forever! Horrifying.

To appease wealthy residents, The City of Ottawa is spending millions of dollars trying to block the redevelopment of this golf course in Kanata. Compared even to one of the lowest income parts of the city, Kanata Lakes pays very little in property taxes. The city can't afford this.

The Lyon Street 417 on-ramp was supposed to open up today, but an update on the website from yesterday says it has been delayed again. I have no idea why they're still even trying to reopen this ramp. It should stay closed.

The research I do relies on the bound volumes of the bylaws and minutes of the City of Ottawa, dating back over a century. I’ve spent hours in the Main Branch Ottawa Room with these books (pictured). Sadly, this resource was recently “discarded” by the library. It’s a loss for local history.

Ottawa By-law finally came by, 4 days later, to say there's "no obstructions on the bike lane and the roadways, including no glass, observed [...] no further action required for the service request, and it will be closed." I beg to differ.

Point 3 in the RTO transportation plan says to ensure cycling infrastructure is well maintained, but point 20 delays the Bay Street renewal another year to reduce the impact on car traffic. I don't see how they're going to be able to do both here on Bay Street.

Point #3 in Sutcliffe's 48 point plan to improve traffic flow: "Ensure pathways, multi-use pathways (MUPs), and cycling infrastructure (including bike lanes) are well maintained, swept and not unnecessarily impacted by nearby construction." Um, shouldn't the city be doing all those things already?
