I took 5yo and her friend on a cargo bike ride today. It was his first time and he was so full of joy and enthusiasm. We took the long way home just to get more time feeling like a bird flying.

Our school doesn't just have a #bikebus, there's also a run club that meets, trains and runs to school together (another weekday). The parent organizer asked for a volunteer to drive all the kids backpacks to school. My husband said why drive when you could cargo bike?! 25 bags delivered this week.

My entire life I've heard centrists scolding leftist candidates with "oh, but how will we pay for all that? isn't your agenda unreasonable? shouldn't we run on a modest proposal for means-tested tax rebates?" Then Mamdani gets elected and makes it all look pretty easy. No wonder they hate him.

Victoria’s bike share is already exceeding Vancouver’s per capita in … checks notes … its first month. Protected bike lanes and reasonably dense development are the secret sauce to an effective bike transport system.

In my work as a city councilor, I hear this view frequently. The most effective way to create awareness of unconscious bias is to create conditions where their automatic assumptions become visible to themselves, without triggering defensiveness. This is extremely hard. Here are some ideas:

This is why I think the Bike Bus movement is one of the most subversive and joyful advocacy tools in safe streets, mobility, climate and a lot of other areas. People can't help but smile when they see kids roll by and it often provokes them into thinking differently about their own kids and lives.

8yo planned a trip this morning: 🚍 knew the bus number, but when we were ready it was a 27min wait 🚴🏼‍♀️ knew a safe bike route, picked biking 🚧 Navigated us to different routes 3 times when there was danger/detours I was very impressed.

On the one hand, some people want to make it so that kids and other people aren't crushed to death by cars. On the other hand, some people are upset that they might have to pay attention, slow down or be inconvenienced by about 15 seconds. So you can see how it's a "war on cars."
