DYK that 75% of people in Somerset Ward rent their homes? That’s why I fought hard for a renoviction bylaw and why my team is spending so much time talking to people in apartment buildings. Renters: make sure you vote, so your voice is reflected at City Hall! Join us: Troster2026.ca/shifts

Last night, I was canvassing in Centretown and met an 86 year old woman who told me that she spent six months living in a shelter after her husband died, because she lost everything. Our systems are failing people. Housing is a human right.

The Street Seats program has been wildly successful and I will fight to bring the program to more downtown streets and advocate for the funding to be permanent. Arts and culture make our city come alive, while also helping to keep our communities engaged and our streets safer for everyone.

Last night I knocked on the door of a woman who was moving into an apartment after months of living in her car, homeless. She was setting up the place so her kid could be returned to her. We’re all one accident, layoff or crisis away from similar outcomes. What an honour to welcome her home.

Private markets don’t take care of people. It commodifies people’s needs and makes them beholden. The role of government becomes increasingly clear as more people are left out and left behind. There are many ways your life becomes further unaffordable when we reject taxation and redistribution.

Over the last four years, I have been a leading voice on city council, fighting for safe infrastructure for cyclists, pedestrians, and people who mobility devices. In a ward where nearly 50% of residents don’t have a car, we need to make sure we have safe streets for all vulnerable road users.

We need to change the way we consult on city budgets, encouraging citizen participation before the ink is dry and things are more or less set in stone. Setting arbitrary tax increases before assessing our city’s real needs is leading to a downward spiral, fueled by austerity. We deserve better.

A city rent bank could help stop people from falling into homelessness, while actually saving taxpayer money at the same time. The best way to stop homelessness is to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Displacing problems doesn’t make them go away. We have fought for and won ANCHOR, more responsive community policing + outreach services. But we still need sustainable, long-term solutions to chronic addiction and homelessness— specifically a significant scale-up of high-needs supportive housing.
