I was surprised to hear Abbotsford School District emphasizes abstinence as the only "truly safe" way to not get pregnant or get STIs. Mainly, because that's not true. Telling kids to not have sex means they still have sex, just in less safe ways. Today for @thetyee.ca thetyee.ca/News/2026/09...

"Recent reporting has uncovered that the VPD inspector who at one time enthusiastically worked with DULF was the same person to approve an investigation into the group once political tides had turned." I'm sure this will be looked into thoroughly.

tears at this. so grateful for people who do right knowing they'll be done wrong. it doesn't always turn out like this. harm reductionists are the best fucking people and there is absolutely nothing stopping you from being one of them.
Justice Murray ended her ruling by addressing DULF’s founders directly, saying they did the public interest a service “at considerable personal cost.”

“You selflessly put yourselves to the side for this cost, and it’s something that most people wouldn’t do,” said Justice Murray. “I applaud you for what you’ve done. I think you should be very proud of yourselves, and it’s people like you who make a difference.”

Almost 17,000 people have died from drug toxicity in BC. Between January 2016 and March 2026, 57,509 people died from opioid toxicity in Canada

My second article for the day is about this morning's historic BC Supreme Court ruling in favour of the founders of the Drug User Liberation Front (DULF). The judge praised DULF's work, said a safe supply is necessary to save lives, and threw out charges of drug trafficking.

My first story on the health beat is about the law that keeps 90% of Ontario's healthcare workers from being able to take strike action. It's being challenged by the Ontario Nurses' Association, but in the meantime, unions like CUPE say employers rely on the law to avoid bargaining in good faith.

I think it's ill-advised and anti-democratic to introduce an omnibus bill, cite a crisis, and rush major changes to labour and environmental law. It's going to provoke aggressive resistance and risks, ironically, slowing down the projects the government is so keen on. It's going to be a huge mess.
