Terrific, prolific UK voiceover and radio unprofessional. Low-functioning Doctor Who enthusiast. Oodles of charisma. Notional treasure. Quite nice. Woke as folk.

For 14yrs, the Tories cratered our economy, added thousands to our cost of living, melted down public services and brexited us into decades of eye-watering expense and lost opportunity. That’s still their plan. With tax breaks for the super rich paid for by welfare cuts. So what TF is this headline?

I think the BBC needs to go hard on the Reform corruption story, as part of their attempts at “Balance”. They’ve spent years pretending Reform are somehow *not* a transparent treasonous grift by a bunch of looting Hoorays. So this could be the other side. Where you say they clearly are, cos, look.

In the new Radio Times... Screening 9 September on BBC Four.
DRAMA
Penda’s Fen 10.15pm BBC Four Catch up via iPlayer
In his last summer before adulthood, the priggish
son of a village parson has his certainties on faith,
politics and sexuality disturbed by homoerotic
visions, as well as by supernatural apparitions that
include pagan king Penda and even Edward Elgar.
A pastoral chiller suffused with eerie imagery
and Elgar’s music, this BBC Play for Today from 1974
was filmed on the composer’s home turf near
the Malvern Hills. Written by David Rudkin
and directed by the great Alan Clarke,
Penda’s Fen soon became a cult classic
and has been hailed as a masterpiece.
It has warranted sporadic repeats,
cinema screenings, a Blu-ray release
by the BFI and, last year, a scene-byscene analysis from Ten Acre Books.
Spencer Banks, who played troubled
teen Stephen and was then best known
for the ITV kids’ drama Timeslip,
introduces tonight’s revisit at
10.00pm. PATRICK MULKERN
