Listening to the new EP of Songs In The Key Of Life outtakes. Other artists would kill for material this good, and Stevie just sat on it for 50 years. I frequently dream that my house has rooms I didn't know existed. I don't think there's any meaning deeper than needing the storage space.

The BBC does genuinely seem to be trying to save money where it can; they scrapped an undercover investigation where Amol Rajan went out clubbing with a view to exposing the easy access to poppers because they didn't want to pay for the Amol night rate

I didn't have a huge amount of resentment for other practitioners when writing was my main source of income. There were a few I thought were shitty chancers. I felt that quality would always out, and the shitty chancers would be known. Now I have even less resentment. It's a state of grace.

For a moment I thought you'd found a member of the Red Army Ensemble crouching behind your microwave like a Japanese soldier left behind on a remote atoll.

Back when he had the best show on radio, @lordshortcake.bsky.social used to have a regular phone-in topic of 'irrational turn-ons'. Popping the seal on a jar of coffee, etc. Today, I'd be ringing in about J-Cloths on a roll. J-Cloths are great. Come on, who doesn't love a J-Cloth? On a roll? Yes.

Starting a deep clean of my kitchen. If you had to compile a list of people most likely to find a CD of the Red Army Ensemble behind the microwave, how high would I have come?

Very sorry to hear Tony Currie has died - a Scottish broadcasting icon at the Beeb, STV, Radio Clyde, and of course, his own beloved Radio Six International. Very few knew and loved broadcasting quite like him - and always with a sense of fun. Goodnight, Tony. RIP. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM32...

I just read a headline about a bloke being done for murder after he stuck a compressed air pipe up his mate’s arse for a laugh and exploded his internal organs. It’s not at all funny, and absolutely no one should laugh.

Make the Uromune vaccine for recurrent UTIs available on the NHS

Nearly 2 million women, trans men & nonbinary people in the UK suffer from recurrent urinary tract infections. An effective vaccine exists, but the NHS only gives it to a tiny number of people in special circumstances. We ask the government to commit to making it available to all who might benefit.Recurrent UTIs harm patients' quality of life, including their productivity. Prevention often consists of long-term antibiotics, risking resistance & serious side effects. The Uromune vaccine was developed in 2010, is safe with minimal side effects, reduces UTIs by ~70% & makes them less severe when they do occur. Yet on the NHS it remains available only on a "named patient" basis. This is a missed opportunity to ease millions of patients' suffering & reduce the economic impact of UTIs.

The BBC’s Spencer/Diana/Charles story still running since Wednesday is little short of madness. It’s programme promotion, book PR, gossip and shit stirring. Nothing more. What has been ignored to keep this crap running? It’s shameful.

100% the vibe that Lanterns poster gives off
A two panel cartoon the first showing someone peeing at a urinal, and a second person walking past. Second panel shows rhe second person peeing at the Urinal next to the first. Underneath that is the Lanterns poster with Hal Jordan looking straight forward and John Stewart giving him the angry side eye, the ol’ hairy eyeball.

I'd be willing to bet that Piddlington doesn't generate its own electricity and has water piped in from outside, being a rather small pastoral neighbourhood of a town hall, church and nothing else but houses. Let them leave the UK, I'm sure they'll survive with the money they make from fetes.

Being a drummer is amusing. The other musicians can be tootling away doing scales and warming up, but if you have a little tap round the kit to see if it sounds good in the room and feels like everything is in the right place, you're 'making noise' and must stop.

This is sad. When she was arts editor of the New Statesman, Frances gave me a gig as radio reviewer. It only lasted a few months, because I suspect my frivolity and tendency to write about the lowbrow wasn't a very good fit, but it was a lot of fun.
