I've been working on a very self-indulgent AU for over a year now and wanted to post something from it, all you need to know is that Stede's a museum volunteer and Ed's become obsessed with him:

Buttons does show him, although Ed has to redirect him again when he pauses in front of a dodo and starts expounding upon the perfidious sailors that made the taxidermied carcass he calls “Betty” extinct. Ed all but sprints down the hallway until he reaches a wooden door marked “Volunteer Tea Room” on a neatly printed but old placard.
What the fuck is he doing here? Ed carefully twirls the two strands of hair that he pulled free from his bun before he walked into the museum. Does Stede even remember him? Or is he just one of a million people Stede’s interacted with in the past few -
The door swings open and Stede, turned partially away and in the middle of saying something to someone within, walks at full speed into Ed’s chest.
Oof. He’s as solid as he looks. … Oooh, he’s as solid as he looks.
Ed reels back as Stede catches his arm, says, “Oh my god I’m so sorry!” then blinks, and adds, “Ed?”
“Hey,” Ed wheezes, totally cool about it. “I was, uh.”
“Oh no,” Stede says, and he looks truly concerned as he says, “you missed Arthur!”
Ed hesitates. That’s not quite - he wouldn’t quite - “Actually, I wanted to talk to you.”
“Oh,” Stede says, looking adorably flustered, “me?”
Ed’s crush magnifies tenfold. “Yeah, you.”
“Well, maybe you can go talk in that cafe next door,” says a handsome Black man in an orange beanie standing behind Stede. “Jim and I are trying to leave for the day.”
Ed didn’t plan on going on a date today but he’s not going to look any gift spiders in the mouth. He gallantly steps aside so Stede can exit the doorway and says, “Great idea. Let me buy you a coffee.”
“Oh!” Stede is clearly flustered. “You don’t have to buy it for me.”
“Don’t care who buys it, just care that you get out of the doorway,” growls an intense looking person who Ed guesses is Jim.
