Once I read chapter 2 of @dbsaveofmd.bsky.social’s “Shroom at the Inn,” I started sketching out a version of magpie fae Ed. He’s by far the most beautiful thing I’ve ever drawn, and I’m so proud of how much I learned in the process! Thank you to my amazing collaborator for inspiring me so much! :)

A digital drawing of Ed Teach from OFMD. He’s reimagined as a magpie fae, with a long, pointy ear and lots of mushroom tattoos. His bright purple shirt says, “I’ve been digging this vibe all day.” He’s looking off into the distance, watching his crush (mushroom fae Stede Bonnet) walk way.

Rewatching the 2017 remake of DuckTales with my kiddo. Best theme song for a tv show ever written, hands down. Even Rhys and Taika seem to agree! Woo-hoo!

I am SO SO EXCITED to share the 1st chapter of our new fic, "Shroom for Improvement," a collab with @mistymountain83.bsky.social 🍄 I hope it makes y'all as happy as it's made us! It's very, very silly, but also really sweet (which I know I needed)! We'll be posting every Wednesday. Please share 💜

summary: Mushroom fae and train conductor Stede Stinkhorn Bonnet has his entire comfortable, drab life upended when he inherits Stinkhorn Inn and Manor. He reluctantly enlists the help of magpie fae and mycologist Edward Teach to figure out the rhizome ritual that must be performed to save a sentient house. A slow-burn romance with lots of love, silliness, and a house made of dick-shaped mushrooms. Based on the novel "Shroom for Improvement" by Jemma Croft.

I'm so excited to share with I'm working on this #WIPWednesday. An AU based on the book "Shroom for Improvement," Stede is a mushroom fae & Ed's a magpie fae. It's going to be a long one, but I've got 2 ch done so far. There'll be magic, a (pervy) sentient house, and lots of shenanigans!

“You’re not going to let it go, are you?” Fang asked with a giggle.

“Nah, I’m just getting started,” Ed said, beginning to feel the effects of the mushroom tea, making his limbs all loose and tingly. “I’ve got a three-part plan,” he added, starting to slur his words a bit. “Step #1,” he counted on his fingers, “locate a mushroom fae. I asked myself: where am I most likely to find one? They like dark, dank places. Preferably with a lot of moisture in the air. The underground trainlines! And! Yay! There he was like a beautiful, grumpy lighthouse, luring me in.”

“I think, technically, you’re supposed to avoid lighthouses. They keep ya from cracking up on the rocks,” Fang inserted seriously.

“Nah, this one was calling to me like a beacon. Step #2: Get said shroom fae to agree to run some experiments on him, with him, have him open up to me about all the secret mushroom magic that might be the key to saving the Kingdom from industrial damage and unsustainable farming practices. Step #3: Experiment. Fall in love. Save the Eight and a Half Kingdoms. I’ll be known as history’s most brilliant tactician."

“You’ve got it all sussed out, don’t you?” Fang asked, full-on laughing now.

“Yeah, think I do. I should probably give back all the stuff I’ve been lifting from him over the past three years though. He thinks I’m a thief,” Ed said with a huff.

“Well, like you said, you have been taking his things,” Fang said sincerely.

“He just has so much cool stuff! So many shiny objects! Most of the time, I don’t even know I’m doing it until I get home, and oops! His pocketwatch is in my jacket. It’s like, ingrained as a magpie fae, ya know? I always give everything back to other people. I’m just having a hard time parting with his stuff.”

“I want you to hold the cross here, have it still your tongue, and remind you that I don’t want to hear you. I don’t want them to hear you.” @kalansphantomff.bsky.social’s words would not leave my brain alone until I drew this image! From Acts of Contrition…go read it!! 🥵

Digital drawing of Ed Teach’s open mouth; his tongue is out and Stede’s thumb is pressing a cross necklace into it. On Father Bonnet’s hand we see a gold ring adorned with a cross. Drooling ensues.

The second has closeups of Stede and Ed’s faces, kissing. The main picture plane had Stede and Ed embracing and kissing while the pawn shop burns in the background.

Part Two! Ed and Stede, strangers at a beach party. Ed sees a hot blonde standing at the bar in a stunning pink shirt, not so unlike his own. The two make eyes at each other all night, until Stede finally approaches and tells Ed he wears fine things well. They kiss. Thanks for reading my skyfic :)
