Ed stands outside the museum, huffing warm breaths into his fingers. Fuck, Boston is cold. He always forgets. Not that he had time to pack anything truly warm before he jumped on a spontaneous flight in LA. It felt more urgent to get here than it did to fish out his winter gear from storage in New York (and, let’s be real, his winter gear is just a pair of fingerless gloves at this point).

When Ed sees a sporty little SUV careen around the corner, he fully forgets about the cold. Stede parks like he drives — like an absolute maniac. There’s no way that parallel space he’s slotting into is legal, and he definitely just dinged the Audi in front of him. But when Stede gets out of the car, he’s grinning, jogging toward Ed before he even locks the door, and Ed can’t help the feeling of warmth and relief that washes over him. They’re here. Together. At last.

Ed’s running to meet him before his brain can even tell his feet what to do. They slam into each other for a hug that takes the breath from Ed’s lungs.

The glow-worms at the redwoods in Rotorua are in an artificial cave that was made by Wētā Workshop (famous for Lord of the Rings etc) and is used for scientific research- very cool!

We are a group of queer artists, and we are in big trouble.
In April 2025, we immigrated to France, seeking a safe place to live and make art.
Our humanitarian visas expired a year ago.
Since then, we have been trying to get legal status in France.
To be able to work, open a bank account, get health insurance and just have some basic human rights.
We spent a whole year fighting for our lives against Strasbourg Prefecture and we lost.

All this time we couldn't properly work, so we were burning our savings.
In August, all three of us were denied a residence permit.
According to the Prefecture, the only option for us To stay legally in France is to become asylum seekers.
About a week ago, we sent out our applications for the asylum.
Now we are looking at another indefinite stretch of time, before we are summoned to Paris for interviews.
It might be two months, three months, half of a year or even more... no one knows for sure.

We had planned for a year without documents max, and now it's been a year and a half already.
No matter how hard we tried to stretch our savings, they have run out.
Currently, we don't have enough money to pay for rent and food in November.
It's hard for me to admit that, but we are in huge trouble, with all our hopes and plans ruined by the French bureaucracy.
We really need your help and every little bit matters, so I came up with some options for how you can support us.

Boy did this one take a lot of walking over sand dunes, but we got there 😂 The way this scene is cut together makes it look very much like it's in a beach location, but it's actually not- these are dunes that sit well behind Te Henga on the edge of Lake Wainamu.

For #WIPWednesday, I really thought that staying a couple of days at the inn site was going to give me warm and fluffy vibes, but instead I couldn’t stop thinking about the rockslide that happened right beside us, and now I guess some Whumptober is happening 👀

They knew this island was volcanic; figured it out from the steam vents over the other side, pouring clouds of boiling white up into the sky from their pits of bubbling mud.

He just hadn’t thought about it any harder than that, and now, grabbing for any handhold he can find, he only has one thought.

“Stede,” he says, voice lost to the growl of the earth. “Stede!”

He makes it to the door, riding the rock and roll of it like he’s surfing a wave, but of course he fucking locked it in his mood earlier, didn’t he? Made sure Stede felt as rejected as he could, left to sleep out there in the living room, a hundred miles from Ed.

He’d struggled like hell to get to sleep without the warm solid rectangle of Stede pressed up against him.

“Stede!” he yells, getting frantic now. He rattles the handle; the key slides out of the lock and promptly gets shuffled out under the door by the—slowing, fucking finally—waves of the quake.

Everything eases into quiet for a minute, and Ed lets out his breath.

And then from somewhere outside, there’s a sound like branches cracking. Like thunder meeting steel. It cricks, cracks, growls, and then it starts to roar, louder every second.

When the wall of sound hits the inn, it throws him halfway across the room. His ribs crack against Stede’s fancy desk, and then he’s on the floor as dust rains down over him, tickling his face gently.

Slowly, slowly, slowly it settles, until there’s quiet again.

Too much quiet.

“Stede!” he calls out weakly, trying to sit up. He coughs out a lungful of dust? Dirt? and manages to roll over into his side, get up on his hands and knees.

The door’s not locked anymore. Nope, it’s hanging half off its hinges.

Ed scrambles up onto his knees, and then, holding onto the wall, gets himself upright. The blood turns cold in his veins.

“Stede,” he whispers. “Oh, fuck, Stede—“

Where the living room used to be on the other side of this door, there’s now a wall of jumbled rock. He steps toward it, halting, mind instantly vacant.

This can’t be happening. This can’t fucking be happening.

“Stede,” he sobs.

And from the other side of the door, muffled by the tonnes of hillside that have slid down from above them, Stede’s weak voice calls, “Ed?”

We did our last bits of OFMD location visiting today- the only things we didn't get to were the film studio (because we weren't able to access it anyway), and the clifftop for the Hornigold vs Ed scene in S2E3 (maxed out walking, had to prioritise). Pop Pop's camp has been so easy to line up 😂 👇

I have two frames in this project! The first one was a blurry little bastard so I decided to lean into that with an ephemeral, fleeting time sort of vibe. Every moment only lasts an instant. The second one I committed to maximum emotional devastation and I was SO happy with how this came out 😂😌

I've got multiple different Ed/Mary/Stede sandwich fics all close to finished, but from my Whirlpool sequel, the innkeeper era sees everyone doing happy families and learning new things about themselves :P Roleplaying pirate kidnapping, a perfectly healthy thing to do when that's how you met 😌

Listen, Stede’s smoking hot tonight, all dressed up in his fancy clothes, shadow and also glitter smudged around his eyes. Ed’s had a boner the entire time Stede’s been getting ready.

But nothing has prepared him for the way the inn door bangs open, and Mary comes striding through, shoving Doug in front of her so hard that he stumbles and lets out a genuine shriek.

Mary’s dressed in black leather, mostly. Tight pair of trousers with gorgeous heeled boots laced all the way over her knees. Leather corset on top, and a crimson blouse under that, billowing sleeves and tits rising out of the low scooped neckline. Lip rouge to match, even a little black lace mask over her eyes. She’s let her hair loose and there’s so much of it, Jesus, Ed doesn’t think he’s ever seen her with her hair properly down.

She looks at him like he’s a worm, and he nearly comes on the spot.

“Is this one cooperating?”

Stede shrugs, fully into it. “I think he’s got the potential to be a bit mouthy.”

“Hey—!”

Ed doesn’t get to finish protesting before Mary pulls a little flogger off her belt and strides toward him. “Don’t test me.”

He stares up at her in awe and doesn’t say a single word more. Just shakes his head and mimes locking his lips.

She drags Doug around like a sack of garbage and shoves him down beside Ed, where he crawls over on hands and knees. “Oh, thank god you’re here, I thought they’d only kept me.”

“Do you know this man?” Stede asks coldly.

Pals we made it 😭 31 years and my beloved Aussie Rules team has only played in one (losing) Grand Final in 2013. 28 points down and we were already writing our own sporting obituary. And then they turned around and DID IT. Now to find a sports bar showing the Grand Final in Auckland next Saturday 😅
