We are a group of queer artists, and we are in big trouble.
In April 2025, we immigrated to France, seeking a safe place to live and make art.
Our humanitarian visas expired a year ago.
Since then, we have been trying to get legal status in France.
To be able to work, open a bank account, get health insurance and just have some basic human rights.
We spent a whole year fighting for our lives against Strasbourg Prefecture and we lost.

All this time we couldn't properly work, so we were burning our savings.
In August, all three of us were denied a residence permit.
According to the Prefecture, the only option for us To stay legally in France is to become asylum seekers.
About a week ago, we sent out our applications for the asylum.
Now we are looking at another indefinite stretch of time, before we are summoned to Paris for interviews.
It might be two months, three months, half of a year or even more... no one knows for sure.

We had planned for a year without documents max, and now it's been a year and a half already.
No matter how hard we tried to stretch our savings, they have run out.
Currently, we don't have enough money to pay for rent and food in November.
It's hard for me to admit that, but we are in huge trouble, with all our hopes and plans ruined by the French bureaucracy.
We really need your help and every little bit matters, so I came up with some options for how you can support us.

As he met her with a polite handshake, Ezri was hit with the ghost of a memory of meeting him before: he was, of course, a friend of Worf's, and in so being, a mutual acquaintance of Jadzia, albeit nowhere near as close a friend as anyone on the station.

"You can just call me Ezri," she said, gesturing for him to join her. She had taken the liberty of replicating a couple of raktajinos, in the hopes that the casual, friendly gesture might smooth down the gravity of the favour she was asking. Never mind the fact that she was asking it of someone who was no more to her than her past host's widower's former work colleague. "Thanks for agreeing to meet with me, Commander."

"Anything for a friend." Riker sat opposite her - or rather, launched himself into his seat. "So am I right in thinking this isn't a surgical thing?"

"Oh, nooooo, I am staying completely joined," she assured him. "It's more... esoteric than that. You'll be playing host to Jadzia's memories. It's a way for joined Trill to be formally introduced to their symbiont's past hosts. It's supposed to help us integrate lifetimes of memories, learn from them, learn about ourselves. That kind of thing."

"And I'd be a... vessel? For Jadzia?" Riker tapped his fingers against his mug.

"Basically. I'll be able to talk to her, through you." Ezri sipped her coffee. She had had to guess Riker's raktajino preferences, and everything she had known about him suggested two sugars would be a safe average.

"Will I be aware of what's happening?"

"You can reassert yourself if needs be," she assured him. "So I can promise you're not going to wake up three days later on Risa with the mother of all hangovers and no idea how you got there."

Riker chuckled. "Wouldn't be the first time," he said.

"Tell me about it," Ezri agreed. "Well, tell Curzon about it. And Emony, that one time. Or was it Torias? You know, as much as I kinda don't want to admit it... maybe the zhian'tara is just what I need to get my head straightened out a bit."

"I'm honoured to be a part of it."

on the one hand, i love watching reviews of bad writing, and critiquing bad writing myself, as lessons in how not to write badly. on the other hand, when i watch critiques of bad writing, i become paralysed from writing by the fear that one day my novel will be rightly eviscerated by owl criticism.
