Found the email I sent when I got accidentally added to the faculty listserv of an orthopedic surgery clinic and nobody would remove me so I sent this email to all faculty/staff/med students and they removed me almost immediately
Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

this is the rape culture btw. the one women have been warning you about, and were told we were hysterical and over-sensitive and couldn't take a joke, and that rape allegations ruin men's lives, and now we live in a meritocracy where the only "merit" is who has hurt the most women

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

PSA from Gangsters of Capitalism
Footnote 15
X
15 This was false. As a journalist who'd been to Fascist Italy later recounted: "The author was employed as a courier by the Franco-Belgique Tours Company in the summer of 1930, the height of Mussolini's heyday, when a fascist guard rode on every train, and is willing to make an affidavit to the effect that most Italian trains on which he travelled were not on schedule-or near it.
There must be thousands who can support this attestation. It's a trifle, but it's worth nailing down." David Dudley, "The Problem with Mussolini and His Trains," Bloomberg, Nov. 15, 2016, www.bloomberg.com/news/ articles/2016-11-15/stop-saying-mussolini-made-the-trains-run-on-time.

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.
Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

The sort of person who demands someone new to a field or genre "start with the classics" is often making it more difficult for a novice to engage. Expecting someone to onboard decades of context and cultural difference is a lot to ask at any age. People are usually hoping for fun, not for classwork.

A herd of cattle strolling along a Dorset beach on a beautiful warm evening earlier this summer, with low clouds in the distance and the faint shapes of the curving cliffs of Lyme Bay. This is one of many things I've written about on my website/newsletter lately. If you'd like to subscribe, via the link I've included, a lot of what I post on there is free, and you can read *everything* I post for a minimum of £1.66 per month. Ultimately I'd like to focus more on the writing there and in my books in the near future and less on social media. If you subscribe, it helps me do that, and offers me a way to communicate outside the frantic rush of everything. I feel utterly, utterly burned out from book promotion lately. I don't enjoy a moment of it, aside from the feeling that it makes me realise what I write is being read and enjoyed and that I'm not shouting into the void. I don't want to be trying to get enough sales to be taken seriously by the book industry, trying to make publishers deem me as worthwhile, trying to somehow compete with the insane pace of this site and the weird dissonance and chaos that comes from communicating simultaneously with people who barely look at it and people who are on it all day. None of that is why I decided to be a writer. I want to read, jot down a load of stuff in notebooks, mess about with new ideas, hang out with interesting human beings and be out in the world. Those are the things that make me a better, happier writer and person. So I'm going to have a little break and be a bit of a creative dosser for a while rather than the digital workaholic that our new robot universe and the injustices of the publishing industry are striving to turn me into.

Turns out that if you are an old lady with a banner supporting Palestine, the government arrests you on charges of terrorism. If you are a masked white male thug bringing a national port to a standstill, the government does absolutely nothing, and the media covers it like some lads on a day out.

If you have a pet that sometimes snags your clothes, or if you're clumsy like me, I've found Dritz Snag Nab It to be very useful. It's a needle with rough grooves on the tail end. Push the needle through the cloth and it'll pull the snag to the fabric's underside, where it will be hidden.
A green plaid flannel shirt with two snags on the face side of the fabric. There's a Snag Nab It needle next to the snag. The same flannel shirt, but the snags have disappeared. A photo of the underside of the cloth. The snag is now on the underside.
