Develops medical laboratory software. Emphasis on medical billing. Former Treasury VP (risk mgmt stuff) at ridiculously global bank, gave that up when I figured out they ignored risk management.

Newt, to quote Charles Pierce, is “a dumb person’s idea of a smart person.” Lucky is a weirdo, beardo, & a fatty. Musk lost a battle of wits against two pop-tarts and a toaster!
The Time Elon Musk Hurt Himself Trying to Eat Pop-Tarts

Space journalist Eric Berger's 2021 book Liftoff: Elon Musk and the Desperate Early Days That Launched SpaceX includes an anecdote from one of Musk's colleagues in the extraterrestrial exploration industry in which Musk encounters worthy adversaries at his hotel's breakfast bar - a packet of Pop-Tarts and a typical toaster.

“Elon comes down, and he walks over to the breakfast bar and he picks up a package of Pop-Tarts," the man recalled. "He was transfixed. This was like a scene out of 2001: A Space Odyssey, when the apes examine the monolith. It was clearly the most fascinating thing he had seen that morning"

When Musk finally realized that Pop-Tarts are best prepared toasted, he took the package to the toaster and inserted the two pastries into the slots - horizontally. After the Pop-Tarts were done cooking, instead of doing literally anything else, Musk dug his fingers in between the grates to get the treats that were out of reach, screaming "Fuck, it burns!
Fuck, it burns!" at the top of his lungs.

🫁 Next time, just get a muffin.

Crude oil looks like it's peaked for the now. It's certainly acting like it. Combined with NVDA looking like it desperately wants to break out, it could be we're looking at a blowoff AI top. Bonds are kind of due for a relief rally too, that would be the direction of fear in that market. We'll see.

Even if you think it does nothing for you? Who's in power makes a huge difference to millions of people who feed you. Mutual aid is great! But it won't, like, change the fact that slavery is getting more & more legal in this country. That's what laws & elections are for. So let's use them.

Yup, absolutely. I think it’s wrong to treat the Iran War as simply one bad error that happened to the Trump Admin rather than the entirely logical consequence of the way it operates. If it wasn’t Iran, it would almost certainly have been something else

This is the correlation between the YOY change in the CPI ex food/energy, and the price of WTI, going back to 1986, which is when FRED's WTI series begins. There's a one year lag in the effect a change in oil prices has on inflation. This is why Trump's goose is cooked.
Correlation of oil prices to CPI ex food & energy. It peaks at one year out.

SJB went up today. This thing might actually end in the green for the year, moreso with dividends included. Like, whoa. If we do get an event coming out of the speed that interest rates have moved up it'll be very nicely in the green. Either way it's beginning to show some usefulness as a hedge.

Everyone comparing the 2026 midterms to the 2006 midterms is underrating the likelihood that the illegal unpopular Middle East war and destabilized economy defined by unprecedented inequality could also lead to a 2007 and a 2008… And, god willing, we’ll do 2009 properly this time.

The Middle East is kinda like Santeria. I remember a Miami Vice episode where Crockett & Tubbs asked a janitor his opinion on Santeria: "If you don't go in the ocean, you won't get wet." Same for the Middle East. Trump has no idea what he got himself into.

Sometimes you can see the whole market through a single stock. I took profit in Wendy's a while back, after Wall Street Bets goosed it higher. So I'm watching it today, and there's a massive number of bids at 6.40. So I put in a bid for one lot at 6.39. I'm the only one there.

You'd think down 1% was limit down. As of tomorrow, assuming today stays above 1% down, it will be two full months without a single day down 1%. Lots of up 1% days though.

NEW: Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass with an estimated 800,000 people in Paris on Saturday. At a migrant house before Mass, he said the history of humanity “is not written by those who give the impression of winning by imposing themselves and ‘dominating the room,’ but by those who ‘make room.’”

“No one is so poor as to have nothing to give.” Before Mass, the pope sat with migrants and told catechists to respect each person’s pace. Six altar servers with Down syndrome served his Mass.
