Saying Lucy is going to pull the football away is defeatist and in the end only serves Lucy's agenda. Relax, everyone: Lucy is NOT going to pull the football away. She simply doesn't have the political juice to pull the football away this time.

One of the most obvious push polls I’ve seen in a while. “Do you agree with this statement? ‘We should guarantee children are able to eat even if it means sometimes there are sandwiches filled with different kinds of animals’ shits’”? And then they say “80% of people think kids shouldn’t eat”
Hi Joshua, do you agree or
disagree with this statement: "More nuclear power plants should be built, even if they cost a lot and create radioactive waste". Reply with one number:
1) Strongly disagree
2) Somewhat disagree
3) Neither agree nor disagree
4) Somewhat agree
5) Strongly agree

It's officially pumpkin season, which happens to be a special treat for our ambassador wolves this time of year! 🎃🐺 Although wolves are classified as carnivores, they can sometimes have an omnivorous diet. Along with meat and eggs, wolves may also enjoy fruits like pumpkins. #wolffact

The correct answer is to call in a major bomb threat to both towers like 45 minutes before the planes hit. The thing is, you can’t stop the planes because then the terrorists would just regroup and try again. But you could try to persuade or scare people to not get on the flight. Cut tires, etc.
Imagine you could travel back in time to September 4, 2001-the week before 9/11.
You are the same person you were then same age as you were in 2001, living in the same place, etc)—but you are obviously coming from the future, so you know everything you know in 2026.
EXPERIMENT: What specific steps would you take to save the most lives on 9/11?

"Your brains stop developing at age 25" was a press misrepresentation of a study. They wanted to see if brains continued to develop after adolescence, so the study was capped at age 25. A later study with a wider subject pool showed that brains are ALWAYS developing our whole lives.

What's so fascinating about this is that from the outside, you can see this mechanism where AI execs are overstating AI's capabilities and danger purely as a marketing tactic, but then all these other people are taking those cues literally and glomming them onto their memories of Terminator 2.

The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:
Erin Redwing
@realizingerin
I went to an rationalist/EA Al doomer event last night with the goal of meeting someone who could calmly explain to me the argument for how they get to the conclusion that Al will kill everyone.
Because these are rationalists, I expected to find people who could lay out a serious extinction pathway, walk through the assumptions and intermediate steps, identify choke points where negative pathways could potentially be regulated, and entertain disagreement about where their assumptions might break down.
My experience was the exact opposite.
The people I spoke to seemed psychologically unable to entertain the possibility that their conclusion (that Al literally kills everyone, which was a point that many would not even budge on) might be wrong.
Their most extreme conclusion was treated as an axiom.
I had multiple people walk out of conversations with me when I questioned their inevitable extinction premise.
At one point during a panel, the moderator asked everyone in the audience who was still skeptical of Al doom to raise their hands. About half the room did. He then told all of the skeptics to leave the panel and go with one of the speakers, who would answer their questions separately. They filtered out all the skeptics, and continued the panel only with the subset who accepted their extreme position.
I genuinely felt like a heretic just for questioning whether superintelligent Al inevitably leads to the extinction of humanity, or entertaining the possibility that the future might actually turn out well.
That does not mean Al safety is fake. Obviously there are serious questions about rapidly advancing Al systems and what happens as they become much more capable. Those are exactly the conversations I went there hoping to have.
But what I encountered was an apocalyptic death cult. These people are not rational. They are deeply afraid, they reinforce that fear in one another, and they have become so emotionally committed to apocalypse

I think the existential threat of AI is largely a marketing stunt to construct a narrative around its potential, but it bears noting here that living under capitalism means having to pitch even addressing extinction-level threats as Beneficial To Shareholders as the utmost priority.
