This morning a driver crashed onto the sidewalk exactly where my kids walk past on the way to school. This happened shortly before they came along. I have asked my local @brumgreens.bsky.social councillor to demand that this road be closed to cars until the current road works are complete.
A car crashed onto the pavement where pedestrians, including my children, pass every day.

The Green motion is an abject failure for so many reason but it is also exactly how online debate styles transfer to real political spaces. We're increasingly in times where everything is black or white and everything in between is a screaming match that takes the entire progressive movement down.

Former spokesperson for the state of Israel Eylon Levy. They have murdered so many journalists that this counts as humour
Eylon Levy: “I'm quite happy to let Piers in. Out is another question.”

Quote tweeting Piers Morgan: “Forgive me I don't trust you guys to be entirely truthtul given your ongoing ban on international journalists reporting freely in Gaza. Let them in, and then we can discover the real facts about what you have done there.”

Well, I for one am an economist who supports rent controls! Here’s why 🧵: Markets only work well if: -buyers & sellers have roughly equal power -producers respond to price signals & expand supply in response to scarcity -buyers can walk away if prices get too high

At least where I live, for people with power, this isn't hard to say at all. The latter is clearly much, much scarier, and the priority is to prevent such a catastrophe at all costs.

This is devastating. And this represents a tiny proportion of the death and destruction allowed to continue in just one city. And it is allowed to continue. This is absolutely preventable. We know how. It's effective. It's cost efficient. Allowing this to happen - refusing to stop it - is a choice.

In my old home in Saanich, less than five minutes from my door a child was killed by a driver. In a crosswalk. Right outside their front door. The mayor at the time blamed the child's clothing choices (which lost him the next election). That road was never improved. Blind spot is an understatement.

Ed Miliband might be a decent person trying to steer his colleagues toward a conscience. But the Starmer period exposed how many senior Labour figures, many still in positions of power, can stomach children being killed at scale if they think it favors their fortunes. And us millions won't forget.
