Former highway engineer polices swearing by victim of road violence. Yes, I swear when I talk about drivers trying to murder me. But apparently that is offensive language when asking someone to understand that proactive safety measures are better than reactive. @pedantic.bike

I am deeply troubled by a SD61 candidate for Victoria belittling teachers foe being opposed to AI use in scholls because, apparently, we're all curmudgeonly fucks who are too old and inflexible to understand the amazing potential of AI.

Movement: Metro Vancouver Transit Riders @movementyvr.bsky.social · 22h
This morning, both the BC Conservatives and the BC NDP ruled out a vehicle levy to fund public transit in Metro Vancouver. This despite the vehicle levy being commonly used in other cities, including Montreal, Seattle, and the bustling metropolis of Gatineau, Quebec.

Nanaimo is a mess. The core could be something incredible, but instead cars are given free reign over a set of winding streets all within an easily walkable radius. Luckily Nanaimo is a city that is trying to change for the better. Lots of new bike infra. But the core needs to cut out the cars.

Wow, better for traffic... How are these things to navigate for anyone outside of a car? I'm going to go with a hellish nightmare. We're basically reinventing highway interchanges but in tighter and tighter settings, all so that people who choose to drive everywhere have a bit more convenience.

There are no roads in British Columbia where it is legal to drive over 120km/h. But my shitbox Subaru pile of junk can exceed that easily. For no reason.

From 1912
A clipping from a very old newspaper says "The furnaces of the world are now burning about 2,000,000,000 tons of coal a year. When this is burned, uniting with oxygen, it adds about 7,000,000,000 tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere yearly. This tends to make the air a more effective blanket for the earth and raise its temperature. The effect may be considerable in a few centuries."

And counterpoint, forcing a bus to merge through single-occupancy vehicles to get back onto the highway is braindead. We need transit priority signalling.
The view from a bus stuck in traffic because MOTT decided it should have to merge through hundreds of private single-pccupancy cars.

Bus lanes work. No debate. If this lane was an "HOV" lane (two people lol) as our transit commissioners think it is appropriate to even CONSIDER as something it's valid to investigate would be just as packed as the others by violators and stupid EVs. Instead the intercity 66 blows by them all.

Also can we please talk about how David Eby assumes everyone is driving a fucking bus? To save $20 with a $0.10 discount, you'd have to buy TWO HUNDRED litres of fuel. I drive an SUV and it makes out at 64L. Who exactly is driving a car with a 200L tank?

In my old home in Saanich, less than five minutes from my door a child was killed by a driver. In a crosswalk. Right outside their front door. The mayor at the time blamed the child's clothing choices (which lost him the next election). That road was never improved. Blind spot is an understatement.

Relevant for Canadians too. My off-brand third-hand cargo bike recently had a seatpost failure, which I could luckily rectify really easily with an angle grinder and some paint. Probably not a suitable solution for an $8,000 bike.

While this is fantastic news, it's a pretty funny contrast to the measly half-million for another copy-and-pasted "study" of the E&N despite having multiple studies that show it isn't the right thing to do. Carney knows where he needs to buy votes. And it ain't progressive Victoria.
