I do find it bemusing when people equate "Musk entered government and deliberately killed millions of people" with "extremely evil people in Myanmar took advantage of Zuckerberg's company's incompetent content moderation". One of those is a crime against humanity, the other is maybe civil negligence

Finally, with the conservatives ditching Great Books (and literacy) we are free to talk openly about how overwhelmingly gay the Western classical tradition is. No more fusty professors interrupting to pretend that Achilles and Patroclus were just good pals.

I am struck that the political theory of MAGA in Trump 2.0 is the GOP can win without sound or moral government if everyone throws red meat to the cameras as the occasional bribe. You see it with Trump, Patel, Hegseth, all of them. Anyway, Trump's approval is at, like, -23, so...no luck on that.

Archer’s resignation from the London mayoral race after it was revealed he lied in court was the thing that got Paul Foot up from his sickbed and contributing again, having first started chronicling Archer’s lies and misdemeanours in 1969. From the Private Eye archive. Issue 992, December 1999.

What I suspect has happened is that they've run out of bombs, and there's no point in forward deploying your most expensive aircraft if there's nothing to hang on them. It'll suit the USAF to cite "security concerns" at Fairford, rather than say their magazine's empty or their logistics are shit.-

just want to highlight the talking points here again, they're amazing again, this is Ronaldo's instagram essay, his recitation of the talking points he gave to his coach, shared with the intention of making Ronaldo look like the good guy it's incredible
The notes I had approved were as follows:

‘I think it is important, because it is the truth, to clarify a few things before talking about Denmark:

I myself, and no one else, proposed a plan to Cristiano for this season with the national team. It was a long and very good conversation.

I know how much he lives and breathes the national team and the stature he has in the world — and, even more importantly, the weight and positive influence he has had on the national team for 24 consecutive years.

Cristiano accepted the plan I proposed to him.

He never questioned my decisions. He was exemplary, loyal and professional.

The plan I laid out for him did not include the Norway match. However, I felt that he had managed to recover physically from the first match and told him that I might need to use him. Cristiano agreed.

I made a mistake by asking someone of the stature of Pelé or Maradona to warm up and then not putting him into the game. If it happened today, I would not do it.

To bring the matter to an end: I want Cristiano in the national team. In fact, I do not just want him a little; I want him very much. Fortunately, he also believes in me. He believed in me at Al Nassr and he does here as well.

As for not greeting the supporters: we have already spoken about it. Someone who has played more than 230 matches for the national team does not need lessons from me about loving Portugal. It was a moment of frustration that erases nothing. He is the player who signs the most autographs, takes the most selfies and gives the most affection to the supporters. Let us not invent problems where none exist. When we are unhappy, we react. That is all.’

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

One thing I never had a true appreciation for when studying the Nazis was just how venal, sociopathic, and/or stupid they all were. I thought I did, but it wasn't until this administration that I got a really good gut feeling for it.

The simple answer, btw, is to pick a couple high-profile targets and destroy them. And the painfully obvious two to start with are (1) Elon's companies and (2) Oracle. The Oracle Corporation is one of the worst rent-seekers in the US. And Elon's just committing crimes left and right.

The intelligent, self-educated working class of that era went on to have children and grandchildren who were middle class, because in that era education did specifically drive social mobility. We've gone from two thirds of the population in manual/routine jobs to well below half

This is a good example in that it also helps explain the way that there are *some* Jews who are willing to do this and it is about the same level of imposition (honestly I don't think I'd personally have much trouble, as someone who fucking hates small towns, but it'd ruin a lot of lives)

the other thing is that a lot of gentiles, from what i can tell, simply do not understand that asking a jewish person, even an anti-zionist, to never interact with members of the community who are in fact zionists, is really fundamentally antithetical to the nature of jewish communal life

This is because most Gentiles assume Jews are just Christians without Christ, and miss the fact that there are a lot fewer of us and that being in community as one people, even with people you disagree with or even hate, is a big part of what it means to be Jewish. Peoplehood, not just religion.

I lost friends over antisemitism in Labour. I tried to argue that the fact that people on the right were trying to use antisemitism as a weapon against Labour (and they were, in bad faith) did not mean that antisemitism did not exist in Labour (it did). This argument still echoes.
