Hugely enjoyed talking to @thenewcartoonist.bsky.social. There’s one catch: interviewees have to produce a cartoon of their own. My idea required me to be able to draw a recognisable Andy Burnham, but I am very much not an artist. I think I just about managed it?

Most striking of all is that this is explicitly a very *pro-politics* speech, a direct rebuttal to the anti-politics that is so widespread. And rightly so: politics can change things, it is an admirable thing to choose to engage in and a duty for us all to step forward and pursue.

The Green party had won this Sheffield City Council ward 40% to 39% to defeat Sheffield Council leader Tom Hunt in May. Labour win a majority of over 1000 to retake it 53% to 29% in this by-election, suggesting a shift within the left since the Spring.

Went to all those places in early May. First time in Northumberland. Wore my winter coat, hat, scarf and gloves. Then 2 weeks later we had our first heatwave. But yes, all lovely places. Was staying in tiny village of Lesbury which was v sweet. Great pub!

We took the girls up there a couple of years ago - Amble, Alnwick, Warkworth, Bamburgh - it was magical. Can't wait to go back. I always describe it as "imagine Cornwall, but reasonably priced and the locals don't actively hate you"
