The sad answer to this is that a lot of people in power are very comfortable with harm. They do not care at all about csam or racist abuse or disinformation. And they are obsessed with likes, follower count and having their ego boosted by panels and talks. That’s all it is. Cruelty is the point

Seeing the BBC tech “journalists” like Tidy and Kleinman breathlessly report AI doomerism as truth, is sad. Not just because they have the resources to report more accurately, but because they choose instead to listen to their Twitter mates who know nothing.

If I wanted to protect the most prestigious and highly paid jobs for the social groups who usually hold them I'd probably design an education system that discouraged poorer children from studying the entry qualifications for these jobs as early as possible..

the spread of youth social media *bans* is a great example of politicians performing an act of regulation that not only is ineffective - it's hardly even 'friction' - but it's a disproportionate attack on the rights of kids that incidentally feeds into the censorship narrative of the right.

Hey Anne Boleyn -
Who’s that lute player?

ANNE BOLEYN:

But I’m gonna find out.

“UNCOMPLICATED MUSICAL SUCCESS MONTAGE”.

I’m still baffled how normalised it is for parents to check and track their phones when I think this is no different to reading their diary or personal letters. How do you build up trust when the default is control? But bizarrely many think our approach is neglectful

This government clearly don't really understand the complexity or the danger of the situation. They show no sign of beginning to understand, and every sign of asking the monorail salesman how public transport should work. It's going to be an uphill struggle, but don't leave this to politicians.

Scooby-Doo is a dog who can talk, which is amazing, and he largely uses his powers of speech to communicate how scared he is of ghosts and monsters, and basically the only thing his owners do is drive him around the country putting him inside various haunted houses and such. I wish I could take Scooby-Doo aside, I want to say to him, these people are not your friends.
