Post by @scottygb.bsky.social:

Channel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?”

It “seeks to determine whether ADHD
is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”

“While traits of ADHD undeniably exist – the question is why they exist. Is ADHD actually a neurodevelopmental disorder? Do people with ADHD have differently wired brains? Or does our world – with…processed food, and regimented education – serve as the catalyst for certain…patterns of behaviour?”

I think a big chunk of the "linux is hard" sentiment stems from the fact that most linux users do weird things with their computers. basically this:
tweet screenshot:

a popular myth is that people who are Very Computer have computers that work. nothing could be further from the truth. the Very Computer are capable of generating much more novel and fascinating ways to make computers not fucking work and exercise this capability wantonly

The "and post it on the Internet" part of this is such a weird addition. It's like if someone had said "I'm bad at cooking" and the response was "just make bad food and serve it in a restaurant". That's not what people are saying!

Timeless design! Incredibly, these beautiful fibre baskets are about 9,500 years old! 🤯 Look like they were made yesterday rather than by Mesolithic hunter-gatherers! From the Cueva de Los Murciélagos (Cave of Bats), Spain. Museo Arqueológico Nacional, Madrid 📷 by me #FindsFriday #Archaeology
My photo shows three small brown fibre baskets made from twined esparto grass. They are remarkably well-preserved and almost complete. They have been radio-carbon dated to the Mesolithic period some 9,500 years ago. Dimensions:

Left basket: Height = 10.7 cm; Diameter = 7.2 cm
Front Central basket Height = 9.4 cm, Diameter = 6.5cm
Right basket: Height = 13.5 cm; Diameter = 8.6 cm

The exceptional preservation of the baskets is due to

“The unique conditions for the preservation of organic material in the cave are related to the null humidity resulting from the geological character of the cave. Moreover, a dry wind current is generated by the prevailing climate in the area, and the north-south direction and narrow and deep morphology of the Angosturas gorge channel the wind toward the cave, through the narrow upper entrance. The wind cools as it travels through the cave, increasing in speed; it is cold as it exits through another narrow entrance located in the lower part of the shelter. The lack of prevailing humidity in the area and the circulation of wind in the cave as it cools and dries prevent the proliferation of bacteria, increasing the amount and diversity of preserved perishable material at the site.” Quote from the research article: ‘The earliest basketry in southern Europe: Hunter-gatherer and farmer plant-based technology in Cueva de los Murciélagos (Albuñol)’

I said it.
I just sent a template rejection e-mail to 56 job applicants.

They could see it was one mass email because I didn't hide their addresses.

I did this on purpose.

BCC is for cowards.

Let's stop pretending that every single applicant is unique and special.

You are all drones who didn't stand out.

You are the sperm who didn't make it.

You are nothing to me.

One generic email is all you deserve.

For me, it's merely a matter of efficiency.

And efficiency doesn't care about your feelings.

Better luck next time, [Applicant Name]

Blood is America's 9th Largest Export
Desperate citizens + lack of regulations = a booming blood trade in America. 400 plasma-collection clinics have opened since 2020.In 2023, American blood - product exports made up 1.8% of the country's total goods exports. The total value of blood products exported was $37 Billion.
That makes blood the USA's ninth-largest goods export - ahead of coal and gold!

applying for jobs again
screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. “you simply must visit the monster—i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."

#NoMowMay has begun! 🌼 The rare chance to help nature by doing nothing.
The image presents a comparison between two types of lawns to promote #NoMowMay. On the left side, titled "Why have a lawn like this?" it displays a grid of uniform green squares representing a plain, regularly mowed lawn. On the right side, titled "When you can have a lawn like this?" the grid intersperses colourful icons of a sunflower, a pink flower, a ladybug, a frog, a bee, a butterfly, a white flower with a yellow centre, a tulip, another sunflower, a red mushroom with white spots, and additional flowers, symbolising a lively, biodiverse lawn encouraged by letting grass grow naturally during May.
