Our latest analysis reveals that around 33,800 cancer cases every year across the UK are linked to deprivation. As the Labour Party meets in Liverpool to discuss growth and opportunity, we believe tackling health inequalities must be a key part of that conversation. Read more: cruk.ink/4jonmP5

I'm so very sad to hear of the death of Esther Ranzen who played an important role in reuniting me with Nicky Winton - the man who saved my life. It's so desperately sad that she couldn't choose assisted dying as was her wish.

Early stroll. The watchful moon. Leathery fallen leaves. I’m ten minutes late so the road is busier. Time never hesitates, but sometimes it seems to. A silent man silently walks a silent dog.

So we are now definitely including Grimsby, Stoke-on-Trent and Rhondda Fach in this project. Three more towns/areas which have seen post-industrial decline to select, one of which must be in Scotland. Any suggestions?

One thing is certain, if we complete this project and produce a book and exhibition, the Guardian will refuse to run the story. Before he died Martin Parr confirmed to me that their photo editor had blacklisted me saying “you are stuffed” when it comes to getting anything in that paper.

This is exactly how I feel when documenting homelessness and poverty. If the pictures don’t make you upset or outraged then there’s little point in creating them. The emotional reaction is the whole point of it.

“I have a rendezvous with Death At some disputed barricade, When Spring comes back with rustling shade And apple-blossoms fill the air— I have a rendezvous with Death When Spring brings back blue days and fair…” Alan Seeger #Poetry
Poem which reads:
I Have a Rendezvous with Death
 BY ALAN SEEGER
I have a rendezvous with Death
 At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
 And apple-blossoms fill the air—
I have a rendezvous with Death
When Spring brings back blue days and fair.
It may be he shall take my hand
And lead me into his dark land
And close my eyes and quench my breath—
It may be I shall pass him still.
I have a rendezvous with Death
On some scarred slope of battered hill,
When Spring comes round again this year
 And the first meadow-flowers appear.
God knows 'twere better to be deep
Pillowed in silk and scented down,
Where Love throbs out in blissful sleep,
Pulse nigh to pulse, and breath to breath,
Where hushed awakenings are dear ...
But I've a rendezvous with Death
At midnight in some flaming town,
When Spring trips north again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous.

Early stroll. The ruminating sky. A man in a doorway waves a cigarette in greeting. A mysterious rumbling that seems to come from the depths of a field. The faded yellow of the old grit bin. A child’s shoe outside the dark chapel.
