Being not Jewish, I was not aware of the key role Fruit Gems had in Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and other celebrations, I was just sad on my own account they were no longer going to be made. But now we all will have reason to celebrate: ejewishphilanthropy.com/sunkist-says...

Sunkist says it will bring back beloved Fruit Gems after national outcry following eJP report
‘We hear you, Sunkist Fruit Gems fans!’ the company wrote, saying it had found a new manufacturer for the kosher synagogue staple

Like, this is classic 'aristocrat does not know basic life skills' stuff that has been happening forever, because why would they ever learn to cook or clean or drive a car or any other basic activity if someone else has always and will always do it for them?

It's hilarious that Huang things not knowing his address, zip-code and phone number are a mark of how he is cognitively off-loading to technology and Klein doesn't seem to press him that what he's actually obviously doing is using the fact that he's rich to off-load onto other humans.

boycotts are easy to understand! when the union says "please boycott this company until they give workers a fair shake," we just don't go there any more! we can stop by the picket line and donate lunches or money, too! solidarity is fuckin awesome! with enough of it we can change the world!

Holy shit
One of the questions was "Here, I made you a template, you can keep it. Do you think I could be an animator someday, my mom says this is a masterpiece" with a somewhat crudely drawn image of the coyote holding a sign, with a clip art roadrunner above it. Wile E. then posted an image of him holding a sign of the art.

Despite the bloviating and sabotage attempts, Moderna’s updated COVID vaccine has been approved by the FDA. Despite the fact that it theoretically requires one preexisting condition, the list of conditions is enormously broad also if you want to JUST LIE. Personally I’ve never had a pharmacist ask

Moderna Receives U.S. FDA Approval for Updated 2026-2027 COVID-19 Vaccines
The updated formula for Spikevax is now approved for individuals 6 months through 64 years of age with at least one underlying condition placing them at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19, and all adults 65 years of age and older. mNEXSPIKE, Moderna's latest COVID-19 vaccine, is approved for individuals 12 through 64 years of age with at least one underlying condition that puts them at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19, and all adults 65 years of age and older.

The loss of search structure is devastating for knowledge retrieval. I teach basic lit searching and it's always felt like a really core transferable skill for students to know boolean operators and "exact phrase searching" and now google, microsoft etc have just killed it to force us to use slopAI.

out it goes: my long post about Rachel Hope Cleves's claim that Tillie Walden plagiarised her book. It's long because Cleves's claim is much, much more bizarre than it looked on first reading. I'm not going to bury the lede here. Cleves's claim does not hold up. buttondown.com/thene/archiv...
stick a pin in this metaphor

…because these covers are a microcosm of the entire conflict; Walden's book is mostly built on writing and other objects left by Sylvia Drake, Charity Bryant, and others. Her work includes many elements from these records that Cleves does not refer to in her book, and many of her interpretations of those records are different from Cleves's interpretations, often intentionally so. In addition to her historical basis, Walden's book includes fictional dialogue and story elements that are original to her work, some of which are inspired by Walden's own life.

something interesting in the Cleves/Walden debacle is the pervasive assumption that comics are a) necessarily an inferior, derivative form that can't be credited with the diligence of research or scholarship, and b) so vastly popular and lucrative that "real writing" must be protected from them
