I think this is the best shirt design I've done all year roryblank.bigcartel.com (I am reposting this because the previous version included a typo, but I am also not deleting that post lol)
A cute drawing of a tiger wearing a little hat and trousers and a shirt, fishing on a small island, with text saying "I don't actually have to do anything at all
I am perfectly contended living without purpose"

I know Rahm Emanuel. I worked with him for years in the Clinton administration, and then when he was Obama’s chief of staff. Rahm Emanuel represents everything that’s been wrong about the Democratic Party for the last 30+ years. Be warned. robertreich.substack.com/p/the-rahm…

No one should be surprised that OpenAI — a company that built their systems on stolen work — would steal the work of researchers and try to take credit for it.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, the world became a uni polar political order in which the world's only superpower flexed its malignant influence and unchecked power to undermine governments around the world. I'm talking of course about Russia.

it's the 40 year anniversary of cleveland's disastrous "balloonfest"
Balloonfest '86 was a fundraising event in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, held on September 27, 1986, in which the local chapter of United Way set a world record by releasing almost 1.5 million balloons.[2] The event was intended to be a harmless publicity stunt. However, the released balloons drifted back over the city and Lake Erie and landed in the surrounding area, causing problems for traffic and a nearby airport. In consequence, the organizers faced lawsuits seeking millions of dollars in damages,[1] and cost overruns put the event at a net loss.[3] The event also interfered with a United States Coast Guard search for two boaters who were later found drowned.[1]

I'll save you the click-through: A lab at University of Copenhagen had been feeding draft manuscripts & data into "Claude Science" & then Anthropic announces a discovery that this lab made a year ago but hasn't published yet. It's plausible that Claude found the same signatures independently...

Having a dream is actually more intellectually stimulating than reading a book, because you're doing both halves of work at the same time. Some people read a book every week, but *I* dream a whole new book every night.

people and time! aftermath.site/microsoft-xb...
What’s missing, in both cases, are two key ingredients: people and time. Nobody up top wants to entrust studios with either of those things anymore. Instead, all they know how to do is panic and pivot. The money is absolutely there, especially in Microsoft’s case, but not for the old-fashioned approach of teams pumping out good games at a manageable scale. There’s always got to be a moonshot, whether it’s Game Pass (and a downright irresponsible studio acquisition spree to support it), massively overspending on Activision Blizzard, or now, AI. Executives cannot or do not want to envision anything more sustainable; all that matters is those sweet, sweet quarterly numbers.

Big Walk Tip: This is NOT how you are meant to ride the chair-lift.
A Big Walk Creature dangles below the seat of a chairlift, while the big red ball that they're holding onto is jammed into the seat. They are kicking their dumb little legs over a massive chasm, while their friends laugh at them from off-screen.

To Bret Stephens, the two categories are "Straight White Males" and "Everyone Else," and for a field to count as diverse, it needs to be composed of half straight white conservative men. This is the logic that they're using to attack universities!

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

I genuinely think one thing I'm learning from the Trump II situation is that while it's true the poor don't vote in their interests it turns out neither do the rich. Competent economic stewardship would be better but they massively over value ephemeral stats goods they erroneously believe he grants.

The thing triangulating Democrats seem unable or unwilling to internalize is that the right wing thinks people who espouse liberal and leftist views are full of shit. Walking those views back, from their perspective, doesn't win their support but rather confirms their priors.

The global protests BEFORE the Iraq War were so massive they were “the largest protest event in human history.” I was at the NYC march. That’s how widely & clearly understood it was that the invasion was wrong. But media/pols would rather rewrite history than admit wrongdoing. They’re doing it again
Wikipedia screenshot:

15 February 2003 anti-war protests

On 15 February 2003, a coordinated day of protests was held across the world in which people in more than 600 cities expressed opposition to the imminent Iraq War. It was part of a series of protests and political events that had begun in 2002 and continued as the invasion, war, and occupation took place. The day was described by social movement researchers as "the largest protest event in human history". (1]
