"The AI bubble allows every idea to be funded!" I've spent the last two years watching every good thing lose funding, which is redirected towards speculation that maybe in the future we just won't have to pay employees.

Nothing brings me joy like landing Mo's Combo on Rem. I'm gonna eat your pet rat and then take his enormous bag. To me, Rem is a Kinder Egg.

Dracula claims that he's going to move to Texas every time we pass a law against murder. Frankly, I don't think he's willing to give up our 6-hours-of-daylight winter days in a move south to Texas or Florida.

VOTE NO on Pro 75 (the 'TAX DRACULA' bill.) If we try to tax Dracula, he will simply move away to Texas.

I know the horse has already left the barn on this one, but I've found that it's worthwhile to keep a box of 4" gauze squares and some paper tape as part of my home first aid kit, maybe some "self-adhering sports wrap." I needed them when recovering from a recent surgery, and they're pretty handy.

Thirding the "soak in water" trick. They make a product called "medical adhesive remover," which is REALLY good at removing bandaid adhesive, but I've never seen it in a store, and it can be kind of expensive.

Me: oh wow, this shop has everything my heart desires!

Spooky shopkeeper: yes, I will warn you... every item comes with a price.

Me: yes, I know how shops work

kittydesade

Spooky Shopkeeper: The price may be more than you expect to pay.

Me: Yes, I know how US taxes work, too.

del3141

Shopkeeper, increasingly exasperated: I'm trying to tell you that I'm evil and offering these wares with no regard for the harm they will do!

Me, also increasingly exasperated: I know what capitalism is too goddammit

I have literally had a cashier at my local grocery store take me aside and say, "thanks for always being so polite, some people here are really awful." If any service employee told me that I was acting rudely, I would be *mortified.*

This guy thinks he's got it made because he can have a computer program do his bullshit tasks for him. I, meanwhile, have structured my life so that I don't have an endless firehose of bullshit tasks. Christ, imagine getting so many speeding tickets that you need to automate paying them.

I got in a biking accident recently, and have probably spent $150 on ubers to medical appointments. (Including $50 round-trip to an urgent care who told me "sorry, we're booked up through today, try again tomorrow!")

Did your dog recently judge me?
On 10/2 I was standing at the corner of Westlake and Thomas around 7:30am, waiting for the walk signal. You walked up with a Shiba on a leash.

Your dog looked at me, looked at my shoes, then back at my face and held eye contact for a full eight seconds before turning away with a sigh. You were very apologetic and said "Oh, he does that" but I was so shaken I crossed against the light just to get away.

This pay rate is only for the most-senior position, Staff Chief Engineer, of which there are only 2 or 3. Most people working this job make about $30-40 an hour. Everyone is being forced to work mandatory overtime, and they got a 0% raise this year - they're losing money to inflation.

A customer just tried to use an employee discount code that ChatGPT gave her. I work at a high-end clothing store and clocked in to my manager telling me about the most unhinged interaction from yesterday. A woman walked in asking if she could use a 40% off code she got online. We don't have any sales running, so my manager looks at the screen and realizes ChatGPT straight up handed this woman a real employee's internal ID number.

I remember being in like 5th grade, just blowing through our local spelling bee like a hot knife through butter, getting to like the final 3, realizing "if I do well at this, they're going to expect me to dedicate a bunch of time to it," and intentionally taking a dive. 😎

I have a respected coworker who, furious at being forced to use AI, asked his AI whether AI was reliable, and, of course, it produced a detailed report of why it was not. He was so dejected when I pointed out that this, too, was unreliable & simply echoing back his intentions.

I got a colonoscopy two years ago; I was a little goofy for like half an hour, and then was shoveling breakfast food into me as fast as I could get it. Literally no discomfort afterwards, the worst part was fasting beforehand.

This is true, but teams will often refuse to locate themselves in cities who don't subsidize their stadium, and leagues like the NFL explicitly prohibit public ownership of teams. (Because they have class solidarity.)

I think it is crucial for the health of the Democratic party that the entire consultant class from previous administrations, including and especially Clinton, be told to go home and stop bothering people. They are wrong about everything and have been holding the party back for decades.

When you're negotiating a contract, you can't assume good faith on the part of your boss - what if they get fired or quit? What if the CEO or board twists their arm? All you have left is what it says in the document.
